Where the heck is the thermostat on a 1980 Plymouth Volare, with a slant 6? Since I couldn;t sleep I'd figureI would fix this girl's car...
 
Find the upper radiator hose, follow it to the engine block. It is underneath the housing the hose attaches to.
 
hard to kill engine attached to a dull car! hope the gal is not as much of a dog as her car is!!

girl is hot as fuck.... car blows chunks... took 45 minutes to change out because i didn't half ass it... scraped the used seal with a wire brucsh on the drill , i am anal retentive as hell when it comes to cars and this was my first volare... kinda fun.

good to hear she is more lively than her car is!

i do the same routine when changing thermostats........you DID put a 180 degree 'stat in it, i hope? that's an easy engine to work on.

yeah she had the ORIGINAL!!!!! 195 in there... i could barely move the damn coil myself on it. All in all i think the problem is fixed... next one to fix is ball joints (which I cannot do).... got to chisel the damn things out.... plus i am a novice with no rack.
 
yeh, mopar's of that era were famous (or infamous) for having loose lower ball joints.....moog part # k381 and k383 as i recall.....if it is still overheating, (and the cooling system is clean), check and see if the fan clutch is not locking up and sucking a LOT of noisy air thru the radiator.

holy shit you have a good memory.... yeah her car stayed right in he middle and is no longer overheating.... i dunno what i am gona do about her ball jpoints though... lowest quote i got was $450
 
i have owned several dusters, swingers and volares from that time period; they all have similar parts. also, i worked in a chain store automotive center during the 80's, saw a LOT of these durable, hard to kill cars come in for routine service.
