Car peeps, how/do you wash your engine?

I have some sand/dirt in some areas, some of which are hard to reach. Water can be tricky and I'm skittish about crap getting wet under there. Vacuum it? I've read of people using degreasers but this isn't really a grease problem. Even if it was then you have to still get that stuff cleaned off.

Thanks for any info.

Take it to a pro and have them do it do for $50-125.

It gets wet under there every time you drive through a puddle. As long as the water doesn't go into the intake or the sump or the distributor cap you'll be okay.

Wtf? Maybe if its a 76 vega it's ok. But I would never fuck up my engine with a pressure washer.

And you're a retard that's gonna pay someone else $50-$125 to pressure wash it for you.

Wtf do you think they're gonna do, pull the motor and wipe it down with a dry towel?

I'm so fucking pissed at the high level of yuppie taking place here.

Get some got dam degreaser, spray your engine down, and pressure wash the motherfucker.

End of discussion...

You know nothing about cars you newb. Wtf. You act like fucking car salesman or some shit.
Just because your yugo sucks don't fuck with others rides.

And real baller's with stacks don't give a shit about one bill.

Lol. I will wash the outside of my cars and that's where it stops. I have my guys doy shit for me, but I (again not me personally cuz I'm a bawse) wash thousands of engines per year and never had an issue.

I buy new cars

never let the engines get funky

True, but the point is that cleaning an engine bay is easy and paying someone to do it is retarded.

I never let anyone else touch my engine bay, mainly because it has a supercharger and a front mount intercooler. I don't trust another soul not to spray crap where it shouldn't go.

Best way to clean an engine bay:

Spray water in the bay, close the hood, let cold car idle for 3 minutes to steam engine bay, but not let the engine get up to full temperature.

Spray with degreaser, let it sit for 5 minutes, rinse.

Round 2, with engine still wet, spray down engine bay thoroughly with simple green. Let sit for 10 minutes, don't let it dry though. Grab a long handle brush and quickly scrub everything down

Rinse.

Grab some interior detailer (not leather cleaner) spray a ton in a rag, wipe down all plastics, radiator hoses, etc, even painted surfaces.

Done.

Takes 25 minutes, makes engine really clean.

To maintain without having to do such a rigorous process, spray engine with water to a steam, spray simple green, sit 5 minutes, rinse and done. once a month.

Never let simple green dry. Never use it directly without water sprayed first.

How old is your car?
My car has a super charger too and a shitload of electronic controlled shit under the hood too. My fucking x wife lives on a fucking dirt road fuck I hate having to drive to her house.

It's a 2007 Mustang GT. Did all the work myself. I keep that thing clean all the time. The blower and piping really makes cleaning the engine bay a pain. You can't just spray crap on it like you can a stock engine bay. Gotta do more by hand.

This is why you are a virgin.

why?

I love the smell...the detail guys used to use it on greasy stains in cars...I use blue coral for pretty much everything on the interior

pressure wash under the hood...Id never take a scrub brush/deck brush whatever under the hood...
the mass air flow on my car is cringing at the thought

An entire bottle....

Simple green is for pussies and hippies, bleach and ammonia FTMFW

Well mine is a US made engine and there is no room to do shit; so I am not fucking with it. Plus those fuckers would probably tell me I voided the warranty.

Just spray some interior detailer into a rag and wipe down those dress panels.

My dad used to have a CTS-V and I'd spray it all down without ever having a problem.

The V uses a roots-type blower. Plus it's covered. Nothing will happen if you pressure washed the crap out of it.

IDK why people think you'll ruin something if you get water under the hood.

There are 2 areas to pay attention to.

The intake. If you have and open element filter you can't get it wet, so cover it with a plastic bag. Most stock intake have openings that draw from the front bumper or fender, you're not getting water enough in there to threaten an issue unless you drove into a lake.

2, the alternator. Don't directly spray into it.

That's it.

You can spray the crap out of everything else and nothing is going to happen.

I'll pass on getting my coil packs wet, the ICV wet, CCV wet, corroding the literally 5 electrical connections on my intake, the O2 sensons that are on top of my cats and anything abs related...pass, pass, pass

they're all made to get wet but theyre not made to have water sent with pressure into them
I'd rather just deal with the road dust that gets on em...which is pretty minimal provided there are no fluid leaks and all the 8 million gaskets and grommets under there are intact

Because the dealer said not to. I asked his dumb ass the other. Those fuckers also broke that carbon-fiber engine cover too when the were changing the thermostat.
Not that it matters but mine isn't a cts.
I like racing gt's my father-in law owns a ford dealership. He brings some cool rides over.

When comes the inevitable "cock peeps, how do you wash your penis?" Thread?

I use a sound attached to a waterpik.

Think she can handle that?

I can't wait to get down there so we can get shitfaced and do some meth.

Straight answer on the original topic: If it's just dust, try using a compressor with blow gun to blow leaves and dust off, then just use Windex and rags to clean it up. But if the engine bay is greasy/oily, you can warm it up NOT HOT; just warm to the touch. If you can't touch the engine block, it's too hot to spray the degreaser on, and might crack if you have an aluminum head or engine. Use plenty; 2 or 3 cans, of engine cleaner, let it soak about 20 minutes, and then pressure wash it IF YOU TAKE CARE to cap the air intake, and cover any and all electronic control boxes, etc. As soon as you finish, uncap the air intake and uncover anything you covered, and drive the car right away on the highway fast, in order to dry it all out, and use the air conditioner (in case you got water in the compressor clutch, this will dry it out and prevent problems there). It's normal to smell something like jet fuel inside the car for a few days after. You don't have to disconnect the battery.

And just use common sense.
