Make sure you're up to par in terms of maintenance, there is very little you can do in regards to aftermarket parts to improve MPG.

yeah all you can really do to help it stay as best as possible is like Swole said: reg. maintance like change the air filter regularly, some fuel injector/ carbuerator cleaner, keep the air pressure in your tires up.

As far as HP gains, yeah there's allot of bolt on Mods you can add to your car that will increase your HP but don't expect high gains..

In many cars, a cold air inake will allow the engine to breathe better - thereby mkaing MPG and HP gains, although modest.

At least it sounds cool at wide open throttle.

go to sherwin-williams and buy a 5 gallon container of toulene and a gallon of mineral spirits
using this 5-1 ratio add a gallon for every ten gallons of gas
so about two gallons of your toulene mix per tank full
cost you an extra 20 bucks or so a tank(toulene is about $10 a gallon)

MAKE YOUR OWN OCTANE BOOST

How to make your own octane booster (this is the basic formula of one of the popular octane booster products). To make eight 16 ounce bottles (128 oz = 1 gal):

100 oz of toulene for octane boost
25 oz of mineral spirits (cleaning agent)
3 oz of transmission fluid (lubricating agent)

This product is advertised as "octane booster with cleaning agent *and* lubricating agent!". Diesel fuel or kerosene can be substituted for mineral spirits and light turbine oil can be substituted for transmission fluid. Color can be added with petroleum dyes.

bear in mind my insurance is outrageous and my license is currently suspended

I also have a station nearby that sells 110 octane racing fuel(about $6 a gallon)
it's leaded but I don't care as I removed the cats and run a 3" downpipe straight back
alabama's great
no inspections

LOL, according to $....there are lots of bolt on superchargers out there that will add 150-175 HP easily, based on the car type, from $5k to $10k....

As stated above, proper maintenance, including tire pressure, is the best way to go.

The powertrain components in your vehicle are normally engineered for a balance of performance and mileage. You can alter this with aftermarket parts. The problem is ... it is a vicious cycle. Changing one component demands other changes ... on and on.

This can be fun and expense. There is a whole industry out there ready to help you.

My advice ... get the best you can out of what you have. Then ... move up.
I love big blocks with buckets of torque ... V8's. I do pay at the pump, but what the hell!

HP ? Lots of parts available: cat-back exhaust, CAI, forced induction (turbo or supercharger), headers, cams, ECU....

MPG ? re-chip is one thing but so far, I'd say a good K&N filter will help. More HP and better MPG...
