Car Insurance

When it comes to car insurance, i know that luxury cars and sports cars cost a little more yearly for insurance. I wanted to know if an Acura RSX falls under any of these categories? I think its borderline between both, any ideas?

I live in NJ, and due to me being under 25, my car insurance is SKY HIGH! I have no points on my license, never got a single speeding or parking ticket, and don't drive a sport's car. Yet I have 5 INSURANCE POINTS because of my age, and that I fall into a high-risk category. Why? Because, although I've had my license since I was 17, I would also borrow my parents' or brothers' cars. And I didn't get my own insurance policy until 2 1/2 years ago. Well, my insurance company, like ALL OTHERS IN NJ, state that unless you've had your OWN POLICY FOR THREE OR MORE YEARS, you automatically fall into a high risk category. So, even though I've been driving for 7 years, NEVER had a speeding or parking ticket, and have had my own insurance for 2 1/2 years, I have to pay $2,800.00 a year. State Farm refuses to take on any new policies, All-State is sky-high, I don't qaulify for NJ cure, and all other insurance companies are telling me that I have to WAIT TWO MONTHS JUST FOR A FUCKING QUOTE! That's how backed up, AND FUCKED UP, car insurance companies/premiums are in NJ. And politicians are doing JACK SHIT about it, because they don't want to offend all the rich, greedy lawyers who donate millions in campaign contributions to keep these bullshit NO-FAULT INSURANCE and UNLIMITED PAIN AND SUFFERING LAWS around.

I think your thoughts are correct and there would be higher rates charged for this vehicle. It is more of a luxury name than a blue collar such as ford, chevy, honda, etc. Just my .02

Wizkid- the RSX will fall into a sport coupe 2 door category. IT will depend on how far you commute every day, driving records and stuff like that. I'm forunate to own an NSX but use my daily beater 89 MAzda MPV as my first car and leave the NSX as a secondary car for "pleasure" use as they call it.

A lot of things factor in for insurance. Each car has a point system. My '02 Trans Am was hella high in insurance compared to a Mustang GT, because it has a higher point score.

An Acura RSX shouldn't be that much even if it was a Type-S. It's still a $25K car with either 160 or 200 hp. Even if it has leather and power everything that shouldn't make that much of a difference.

i DRIVE A 2003 COROLLA S type and pay $1600 a year and i'm bitching. I'm also 24 with 3 speeding tickets and 1 accident.

I got hooked up through my mom's work when I was in High School. I was driving a mustang V8 and was paying like $100-120 a month. Now that I'm past 25 I pay only $50 a month for full coverage. I also haven't had a ticket for a driving infraction since 1993(just seatbelt and parking, etc.), and no accidents either.:p

On a different note my gf pays over $200 a month for an equal car.

I had an Integra(RSX is the next version) in NYC when I was 22, it is considered a sports car. In addition it could be on a list of highly desirable cars for thieves(I would check that), I know because my Integra was stolen 3 weeks after I got it. In any case check out www.progressive.com or some other site that gives you a free quote, you can measure the price differences. If you are in your early 20's, clean record, I would say your insurance would be around 3K depending on provider. If you have family on Long Island, register there it will be cheaper. Good luck. :)

Is it a type R? i think that would definitely land you in the sports car category, but even if it's not i think you're going to pay more than you would for an accord. However if you end up ricing out your integra, your insurance company might drop you all together for bad taste and reflecting poorly on their company.

:laugh2: nothing like a nice book shelf, and freshly sanded bumpers :laugh2:

Well i've gotten my license last June, when i was 17, now i'm 18. Rates will definately be high, that i understand, i just want a rough estimate. I have a clean record though, no speeding tickets, no accidents.

Would it be a bad idea to sign it under my dads name? He has a clean record too and hes been driving 30 years already.

the first year i was driving $tate farm charged me twice what i paid for the car they insured----for liability only! that included "discounts" for driver's ed and 3.0 grade average.

Bro its a sports car so you will pay higher then a reg. car. I pay 1$1300 a year on my Mazada Tribute 2003 es-v6 4x4.. so i hope that will help
