Well he may have his personal reasons but I'll tell you why many young canadians do this.
Canadian army is shit. They lack the proper equipment, the pay check ain't that good unless you as an officer (and even guys with a degree wont touch that with a 10 foot pole), they mostly do Peace keeping shit, no action usually. Gimme a reason to join that ?
