Why won't my computer intall new hardware.....I put a ethernet card in for dsl and it won't detect new hardware

Most are plug and play, but if it doesn't auto detect your card then perhaps you can update the driver using a disk that came with it (assuming it came with one)

it won't even take the disc tells me it can't locate the hardware....and it is windows me wodin

make sure its installed correctly. remove it and put it back in.

Make sure its for xp or what ever your windows is...If its installed already take it out of pc board or if its a card remove..Turn pc off then reboot it should say new hardware found and install drivers or say its not installed right.If not is probably broke..Other things could be firewall which i dout but possible or if you run a proxy program will do this also..More help would be nice like what kind is it, internal or ex. Feel free to pm me girl you know ill help yea get it going.....Just dont break it till i give the word lol

You can also go to control panel hit add new software and try that.or go to control panel hit system when it opens hit device manager if it reads it it will have a ? mark by it yellow click update driver. The when it asked put in CD..If this fails its junk return...

Gymgurl hun i have the same shit with my sons comp.....i had to take the ethernet card out of the drive and reinstall it again.....if that doesnt work then you could try getting a new one.....your hardware wizard should automatically regognize the new software....because they are so fragile they need to be put in very gently but also it cannot be on a slant or any thing like that.....mine was a pain in the butt....on the back of your comp where you installed the card there should be a green light when it is on and the comp knows that it is there......mine was a bit more of a challenge because i had 98 for my system......try what i said then let me know how it worked

I was implying that Windows ME sucks and causes many many problems. Not that it causes the exact same problem in all computers, but random problems in general.
