most of you know im on my first cycle, its been about 2 weeks and i have gained like 12 lbs. question is, how many calories should i be taking in? should i expect to get "fat" when i try to bulk? all my info is in my previous post

http://www.elitefitness.com/forum/showthread.php?t=454679

my calories are approx. 4500/day. should i just not worry about getting fat right now and just go ballz to the wall for size and strength and just worry about shedding the added layer after the cycle with some clen and hella cardio?? advice bros?

i guess i have been at like 7-9% bf so long im just a a little gunshy when it comes to gaining some fat.

you will get different answers here bro. i personally do not subscibe to "bulk" then "cut" .. i try to just put on lean mass while keeping my bf low the whole time.
i try to stay around 5-7% year round

To answer your question: NO.... Don't go ballz to the wall.... I did that the 1st time I bulked up, and spent alot of time trying to lose the fat..... Just eat enough where youre gaining a nice amount of muscle, with as lil fat gain as possible..... It's gonna take experimenting with your diet, so there is no EXACT answer, EVERYONE is different..... GL man...

Everyones different if you have a high tollerance to gain fat keep the Calories to a reasonable level but if you can normally eat anything and stay thin, Than eat eat eat

if i'm hitting a plateau, while on, i have no problem mixing in some big macs,etc..to get my cals up..but not everyday and not at nite...just me

When I "bulk" I try to maintain a decent level of bf. I to hate getting fat and losing the deffinition, but it comes with the territory if you want to break through your plateus. As long as the cals are clean, just mix and match until you figure out whats working for ya. The key is keeping the added cals CLEAN. I see no real benefit in eating fast food just to bump up your calorie intake.

my cals are split up between about 6-7 "meals" a day. im leaning toward dropping it to the neigborhood of about 3500 for a week or 2 and see what happens. thanks for the input so far bros.

Personally I don't think you know how many calories is enough until you actually start to get fat. I increase my calories by 500 calories/day every week but as soon as I have a difficult time buttoning my jeans, that's when I drop 500 calories/day from my diet. If you never start to put on unwanted weight, you can't ever be sure how many calories are enough. Once you establish what too much is, then you can use that as a baseline to follow so you're never undereating. Guys that never know this about their bodies may be comprimising their gains every day because they feel like they're getting enough calories but really are not. BTW-you should be able to figure this shit out without gaining 30 lbs of fat in the process. Use the mirror as a gauge-be honest with yourself-and if you can't flex it, it's fat.

All depends on metabolism. However if you eat clean calories it's always better than eating lots of calories full of crap.

Come to the fat side young Luke Skywalker. This is my theory on this. I feel that peolpe already at a low bf% can more easliy get back to that low bf% than someone like me who has never had a low bf% (11-12 if I bust my ass). A genetics thing I think. Don't matter whether I eat lettuce and drink protein shakes all day or eat cheeseburgers or cut cals to 1500 my body has this affinity to hold onto fat.

Just my opinion.

This is true..... However, people with low BF%'s usually have a hard time gaining/keeping muscle..... So, if they eat eat eat, and gain alot of weight, they get obsessed with the scale..... So, then the cycle is over, and they cut cals, and start to lean out, and PANIC..... They look at the decrease in scale weight as a loss in LBM, and they FREAK OUT.....

I get very sluggish when bulking up and tend to go way out of shape in the process. However, I cut up very well also. I just try to eat every 3 hours and eat clean. the weigh gainers add that little bit extra. IMO, we are being Bullshitted about the amount of calories and protein we need anyhow. Eat well every 3 hours and the results will come.

Positive nitrogen balance = results.

im gonna start using my waist as a guage. i have noticed my waist a little bigger so im gonna cut back on the cals for a week or so and try to get a balance where im still gaining some weight on a weekly basis but not adding to my waist measurement. everyone at the gym says that ive been so lean that it should be easy for me to cut back up later on. thanks for the info bros!

yes it IS a loss in lean body mass, because there is no fat to lose. when i am "on" and looking diesel (for my size) i am around 5%, when i come off and the scale starts going down about, my bf rises to around 7% which means i am losing muscle and my fat (what little there is) stays the same.
