calling looong distance......

what is the best way to call long distance? i use a calling card, is that the cheapest way? or are there better and cheaper ways to call international/long distance?

Where exactly are you calling and from where?

Most definitely calling card. Get them online though, MUCH cheaper and you can add minutes instantly.

Cell phone. You generally pay the same rate (with your prebought minutes each month) regardless of where you call.

If the other person has a computer, have you tried voice chat stuff? That's the cheapest way.....

That's pretty cool, but there is usually a delay between you speaking, the other person hearing you and you responding. In my experience you both are trying to talk at the same time. You have to get used to that. Like talking DSN overseas in the military.

Even worse.... encrypted DSN overseas. It will drive you crazy. If you can keep the line connected.

Yep, but I'll put up with it if it's cheaper. I've seen up to $2.50 per minute for a phone call overseas. This when the charge was $2.00/hr for internet use.

ain't that the truth!!

I just got a new card from home. it's a 1250 minute card. the first time I dialed, it said "you have 125 minutes left on this card".

10 to 1 ratio for minutes from Kuwait. It's different in nearly every country. That's 2 hours for a 45$ card. I guess it could be worse.

At least I have access to DSN most of the time, & my wife lives close to an AFB.

With Sprint, my international calls from canada to US were billed at a higher rate on my cell. There may be plans that lower the international cost.

Cell calls from here (Kuwaiti cell service) cost an arm & a leg. Incoming international calls aren't as bad. US cell phones don't work here, so you have to know what the conditions are where you're going/where you're calling.

Hope I've confused you enough for now.

That's the best deal in town if they don't limit the calls too much. I was on an island once where they didn't allow DSN morale calls because the contract for data/voice to the island forbid it. Cable and Wireless can suck my crank over that one. I was over $2/minute for a fricken commercial phone call and that was he only way to get off the islad with voice.

Hope you are enjoying the sandbox. Stay Safe.

LOL
Reminds me of shoving DMs & pfennigs (sp) into a pay phone in germany as fast as i could to keep talking to my future wife (20 years ago)

Girlfriend calls me on her cell phone...10 cents a minute.
