Calling all programmers.

Question: Write a program in java and machine language to read in a number, find the absolute value (get rid of negative), convert the number to binary and count the number of 1's in the binary.

I know that the dinary number should be held in the accumulator and the binary held in the index register for counting.

P.S. I dont want an answer, just some guidance on how to start-thanks.
