Buying boat = confusing........

Worse than a house.

There are a large variety of boat styles...for widely divergent purposes.

They can be made of wood, fiberglass, steel or aluminum.

Powered by sail, diesel or gasoline.

Houses go up in value. Boats are more like cars.

Gas mileage = terrible

Hella lot more freedom though.

You can't drive your house to another country.

I'm interested in a 1955 fishing boat that was made for the military. It is simple and very clean. Fiberglass over 3/4" marine plywood. Roomy and affordable. About 40'.

Stuff made for the military is usually pretty sturdy...unless it is a wartime emergency thing.

Has nice lines really.

Old PT boat? That is more of a race boat than a fishing boat bro. Make up your mind!

One would have thought it to be an old PT boat. I don't think this one was.

Looks like all of the other fishing boats really. Doesn't have the marlin tower 30' high though.

Weighs 30,000 pounds. Has the normal amenities.

PT boats were floating plywood with big motors. They mostly got chopped up after the war.

One the same subject...

I'd like a ski boat. I want a really fast, really powerful one. But at the same time, I want it to be large enough that I can take people out on it. I'm thinking chicks in bikinis laying out on the front.

Screw fishing too... don't need that as an option.

Not that price sensitive either... don't want to do anything stupid, but want something really nice.

So what should I buy?

Baja makes a lot of boats along those lines.

Go to Lake Havasu for major events......4th of July/spring break etc. You will see a parade of those.

Also at Lake of the Ozarks during major event week ends.

Boats = hole in water that your cash lands in

But if you can use one a lot.....

I think many came with 454's. Fast as hell.

Boat racing = danger after a certain speed is reached.

Are there brands of boats that feature lower maintanence?

Hey plunky, are you looking for a comp ski boat like a mastercraft? Where will you be using it?

I have a place on lake of the Ozarks in MO.

I suspect that most boating incidents are alcohol related.

People love to get out on the lake and drink like fish.

I have heard favorable rports on SeaRays.

Malibu Skier
Tiege
SeaRay
Eliminator

any of the above will come with hot chicks aboard. :p

Any boat you own is a black fucking hole for $$$$$$$$$$$$. Be prepared. Everyone I have known to have one has had nothing but problems - whether bought new or used. Ask around...

How many six packs per problem?

I know there is an equation.
