Business question...

I am considering trying to open a supplement store in my gym when we move next month. There is a good size room that the owner may be will to rent to me. I was wanting to pick anyone's brain to see what kind of things I should expect. Where do supplement stores get their product and what kind of markup is standard? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Contact the brands you want to carry, example = EAS, Muscletech. They will give you a contact or few for your region.

Contact them over the phone or via internet, ask for wholesale distribution information, go from there, that's your start, I've helped 5 friends of mine start their own supp business'. Mark Up on supps is low, not what many expect, about 35-40%, I own a different store and have about 125% mark up, the supp business is different, most of my friends who have their own supp biz have about 4-6 stores each, that's what is takes to make it worth its while for most, unless your in a honey hole which is difficult to find. peace

Thanks for the info CC. Karma to you. I'm trying to estimate how much things will cost. Rent for the space will be cheap, but I will have to hire some college kid that I can trust to run it while I'm at work. Being inside a gym is nice in some ways, but I'm not sure how many members we will need to support a supp store. Any other advice or info?

Ok, inventory at least $8000, might as well say $1200 for rent, electric, phone, etc.
Depending on the employee, pay him a buck over minimum wage or pay with supplements if the youngster is interested in training, which he/she should be if they are working there, I say hire a female. peace
