Bush administration curbs AIDS research

National health organizations have been investigating and denying grants based on the basis of the fact that they have to do with gays. But remember, Bush is a uniter not a divider. And doesn't want to politicize anyone's sexual orientation. He just wants to discriminate based on it.

Almost a good point timrock. But much like most of bush's big policy pushes there's a backstory. His 15 billion dollars towards africa was not 15 billion new dollars for africa. It was 15 billion dollars taken from other health care initiatives, wo it was really just taking from one area and placing it into another.
Like the "Clear Skies Act"....which is actually a repeal of earlier environmental legislation. The earlier legislation would have actually proposed better environmental regulations. INstead, bush repealed those and put in place his own and then calls it the "clear skies act".....kind of a misnomer.....although the act will produce environmental regulations which are stronger than the current ones, they won't be better than the ones which were already proposed for the future. Its kinda hard to explain, but basically he change great laws into pretty good laws....and then acted like he was doing something new and wonderful. Really he was just weakening environmental laws.
Kinda like me giving a donation of $50 to a homeless dude....
then going back and stealing $25 from him and claiming myself as a great charitable donor in the local newspaper. After all, I did give $25 to that guy, right??

hey 25 buks is better tahn nothin.

anyway i'm sure the people in africa who did get the money is pocketing most of it

Yes....its better than nothing.....but the point is that he is claiming credit for something he didn't do. And even worse is that he cuts the program in half and then claims that he is some kind of great man of the people. Its all a farce. Its a brilliant lie on his part. Kinda like his push polling to win the primaries against McCain.....

And how is this not a grant towards AIDS research? Care to elaborate on the specific programs which he cut to divert money towards African AIDS research? Probably not, more second hand rhetoric you picked up from the Village Voice most likely. Care to tell us where all of this money should come from: to grant billions to African AIDS research and to increase spending on all of these "health care initiatives" you speak of? Are we going to crank up the printing presses or are you advocating more taxation? Tax increases, that is always a great way to improve an economy.

Since it is kinda hard to explain, lets try. Harsher environmental laws cost. If the cost can even be incurred by the business and does not destroy them, then the costs are passed on to the consumer, in the form of higher prices for whatever product or service is rendered.

Since you seem to be a bleeding heart socially minded person, how is your beloved "poor" class going to afford all of these cost hikes? Do you think that somehow their income is going to magically rise since the sky is "cleaner"? Sorry, but the poor will be worse off because of such environmental measures. Their little bit of income will have less buying power. But I am sure you have a plan....tax the rich!!!!!

No, he weakened "laws with good intent, but bad effects, into laws with good intent, but less bad effects." All regulatory laws increase the consumers burden, special interest groups simply fail to tell you this. They love to talk of the Disney land fairy tales of pristine forests and happiness, and neglect to tell you that it will increase the cost of your home, car, gas, heating, cooling, water, food, etc.

Hey! When you are dependant on the efforts of others, you can't be choosy.

what's the fucking point anyway.. it's not like the whole "aids research" thing has turned up a whole lot the past 10 years anyways..

Pharmaceutical companies are not interested in curing aids...

Treating aids is more profitable......
