Boy Band and Quads today....

AAP

For once, I look forward to training again.

One thing for sure, these dudes really do want to grow. It ain't just no summer hobby to them. Believe it or not, they have been keeping journals for the last 6 months of their workouts, that made it so much easier for me to get an idea of what they were used to.

Today is quad and hams day. In half an hour they are going dread crawling out of bed today. (not really)

It is :

Stiff legged deadlifts 3 sets 15-10-6/7 reps
dumbell hamstring curls 2 sets 20 reps
Non lock squats 3 sets x 15 reps
Front squats 2 sets (same weight as the above) x 8 reps, heels on a board, feet 6 inches apart.

this is a routine I used out of college to add two inches on each quad over the course of a summer. Every six days you work quads and each workout, you add an extra 5 pounds to the bar. (2.5lb on each side).

For them, this is their Quad Workout A. Quad Workout B is 3 sets 6 reps of regular squats, 2 sets 20 reps on the leg press.

You know, if I had known that they were really going to apply themselves this way earlier on... I would have entered each of them into the Body For Life or some similiar contest and split their winnings. They have the girls, I will take the corvette.

I don't get it. You're training a boy band? Which boy band? Why did they pick a homosexual trainer? Are they ugly? I bet they're ugly is all.

Going to hurt those boy georges with that heel on a board shit with front squats, that bar automatically draws your forward, they don't need that under their feet for fronts, knees need to be behind the toes my man, the board will only make this more difficult and create more stress on the knees.

Agreed. Lose the board.

You put a DB between your feet while lying on a bench and then slowly raise and lower the weight. Actually works pretty well.

That's what I thought..
Man, I'd be worried bout the DB slipping and whacking Mr. testes...

Why pre-exhaust hams when you're squatting later in the workout?

After quads, they will simply no energy left.

Total training time for 5 of us today : 40 minutes.

dumbell hamstring curls ?

awesome exercise.... cmon' even Nathan knows about them... great stretch.....

don't worry about your nuts, they will be pressed in the bench. I used a decline bench for these.

If done correctly, your knees will never travel past your toe line. Using the board throws more stress on the quads. Trust me on this one... I got the results as proof.

actually......

the above statement would be true, if your range of motion was the same as a properly executed OLY front squat, where the knees do travel past the toes. if your knees are never traveling past your toes, chance are you arent going down low enough and relying a great deal on glute/ham strength to stand up. you arent getting near the amount of knee flexion you would on a flat surface and going ATF. this is the reason for a slight heel in OLY lifting shoes. a 6 inch wide stance or so is way narrow to get full ROM if you are keeping them behind the toe line.

proof is relative. that worked for you. ive done the same switching from 1/2 type squats like you described, to ATF squats.

as a side note, tom platz is training my friend for the USA's this year, she took up his style of squatting. knees go past the toes, ass sits in the pocket to minimize glute/ham. thats how you isolate quads. if you gotta use a plate, you gotta stretch your calves.

Oh yeah? I'll betcha I can lift things better than you could ever hope to lift things.

importante'

The only thing it could fall on is your ass. Duh. You are laying face down on the bench, curling upwards... towards your ass.

What else could it fall on? The floor?

Fronts already place enough stress on the quads, that's why people perform this exercise.

Trust you because you got the results?

Honky please, my quads (31 in.) are bigger than my waist (29 in), naturally as well, and that's measuring at the bottom of the quad.
