Border Question....Scanning ID's???

Are they still scanning everyones ID at the SY/TJ Border these days, or have they loosened that practice since last 9/11? I know that they never did that(at least when I was there before 9/11), but after, they were scanning ALL IDs for dudes crossing weather you looked American or didn't. What is the current atmosphere for the scannage for guys who have recently(or know someone who has recently) been to TJ? Thanks.
