Bodybuilders and Superheroes

Hey guys

I am busy writing an article for my website on Body Builders and Superheroes. A lot of the guys who I know that train and are conscious of their physique have all got some sort of Superhero tattooed to their body or hanging around their neck.

If you guys have any suggestions as to why Bodybuilders love superheroes so much please post some quotes in this topic so that I may include it in my article.

The only professional bodybuilder I can think of who has a superhero “fetish” is Lee Priest with this Superman obsession heheh. If you guys are aware of any more please let me know

I know a guy who wears superman logos for earings, a s-man medallion around his neck, the same logo on his shoulder, and his latest- a huge s-man tatoo on his back. Dude looks like a fuckin idiot. Most people won't tell him that though, as he is pretty fuckin big.

The way I see it is this.........

Many people start bodybuilding because they want to be alot bigger and stronger than the average person. Superheroes have extraordinary powers and tend to have good physiques........just what some bodybuilders are after.

BatZgirl- one book that you should definitely look into, if you haven't already, is "Little Big Men: bodybuilding subculture and gender construction". I think it would be very helpful to you on this subject.

I started reading comic books when I was 6-7 years old. The X-Men was my favorite... I also like The Hulk. Anything Marvel I liked. For some reason I found DC to be boring and hokey... IMO, Superman sucked fat wang.

I thought the physiques the superheroes were unreal... then I saw Arnold Schwarzenegger and knew it was a possibility in the real world. When I was 8 years old and I actually tried to start lifting with my Dad's old rusty Weider weight set in the basement. By the time I was 14 I was hooked on weight training.

I think their is a connection to being a superhero or being superhuman and weight training... we sure don't do this to be your normal every day average guy.

They seems to go hand in hand... If I had a nickel for every time I say a guy in the gym with a Superman tattoo I would have a few hundred nickels.

I think for certain guys... once they get a little bit of muscle... something short circuits and they get some dumb fucking Tazmanian Devil tattoo, Superman tatoo, a Tiger or Black Panther or some other trite cliche'd tatoo.

I would invest in tatoo removal businesses... they will be real big someday.
