Body Fat Scale

sup y'all...

any of you all have experience with body fat monitors, like the Tanita brand ones. You know, they look like your standard bathroom scale, but they use Bioelectrical Impedance to measure ones body fat...

I realize their findings might not be accurate, but they might be consistently innacurate, so you would be able to effectively monitor your progress in losing body fat...

What do you all think of them?

I can see up to a 3% variance in the same day if you take it at morning and then night again-big difference (they recommend doing it at night at the same time). I also notice that if I am in a somewhat dehydrated state that it will give me some funky numbers. I think its good for following a trend but with such variances the mirror may work better!

My girlfriend and I got one for Christmas. Previously I had never had my BF% done. I would have guessed I'd come in at around 15%. Well the scale says I'm almost double that. As much as I'd hate to admit they do serve a purpose. For me it's cutting the number that shows up every morning in half by July. Don't plan on it being +/- 3% but they are ok at judging big gains and losses and setting goals along the way but the mirror is just as good. Mine is a Terriallion model.

More like +/- 10%. Seriously, it sucks. I have the top-of-the line athlete model. Athlete mode shows about a 10% lower body fat and normal mode. In the booklet, it says to set the thing to athlete mode if you do 10hrs or more of cardio activity a week, something to do with oxygen utilization of endurance athletes causing them to hold less water than the normal Joe. Less water makes the reading out of whack so the developed the athlete mode, which is totally inaccurate. It doesn't take into accout bbers fluctation in water levels, especially on a cycle.
