Anyone here have/had one of these, around 2002/03 model? I've been looking at them and reading about the SMG transmisson that some of them have and it seems like this car would be a blast to own and drive everyday. 333hp out of a V6, no turbos or anything? And I hear they handle with the best of them, even though they don't look like that type of car.

Just curious to hear from some people who've driven one, especially if someone has driven an SMG model, on how powerful and fun they are.

It's not a V6, it's an inline six.

Correct. Is this the reason it creates so much power? I'm familiar with some 6 cylinder cars that are high performance because I'm a big fan of 300z's and Supras, but the non turbo models of these cars are only putting out in the low 200's on hp. 333 is more than a twin turbo Z or Supra. Where does it come from.

It's a high rev engine which means less torque compared to other engines with the same output (HP). First M3'S (until 2003) had the SMG I which had indeed many issues. 2004-2006 had the SMG II.

I'm not aware of any issues the SMG had. My friend had an '03 M3 and he drove that thing like he was on a track just about every day. I will absolutely smoke 98% of the cars on the road between its speed and handling. Very impressive cars, but very expensive to service.

My friend had an M3 and his dad had an M5. I am not a BMW type of guy. But, I was very impressed.
