Yes, my microwave is on the fritz. The motherufcker turns ON everytime I OPEN the door. Yes, you read it correctly. Most would say then trash the piece of junk and get a new one.

Dilema: limited funds.

Also take into consideration that is still works.... just kind of not really when I want it to.

So, my question is (of course, I DO NOT LET THE KIDS GO ANYWHERE NEAR THE FUCKER.) will the flesh fall off of my hand or will I die of cancer or some shit like that because I continue to use the hunk of junk?... you know, because the blasted thing is on while I take stuff out and put stuff in.

Obviously if the piece of shit stopped working altogether I would just bite the bullet and get another one, but I figured that if the things still works.... what's the harm?

Am I cheap, or what?!

Seriously though, is anything REALLY BAD going to happen if I put off getting one that works properly for say, another couple of months or several weeks at the very least (the thing has been running like this for two weeks or so already.)?

Yes, I am one cheap motherfucker. ... because it is something that I primarily use, so because it is for me..... I won't spend the money unless I HAVE to.

I am just major in debt, two of my girls are having birthdays in the next several days, then the feast of St Nicholas and Christmas. I don't EVER go overboard buying gifts and I am even making a lot of them this year. But even so, the materials cost a good chunk of change.

I guess I was just wanting to know if there would be any REAL physical harm if I kept using the bastard.

Why don't you unplug it before you open it! You can hook up an on/off switch on the cord between the plug and where it enters the microwave. Just a thought. I don't know how safe that would be!?!
Before I married my wife, her father had the exact same problem with his microwave. He just unplugged it before he ever opened it.

microwaves work by making polar molecules (H2O) spin - which generates heat due to the molecular movement.

anything with water in it will then react to microwaves (the name of the appliance is the same as the section of the electromagnetic spectrum that the waves it uses come from).

as with any energy wave with that, it loses power over distance (I forget the formula - inverse square something). what it means is that it radiates out in a sphere, and a sphere has increasing area as you move further out, which means more space to deal with, and the wave needs energy to move that distance, and it expends that energy as it moves through it.

all of that together means, the closer you stand to the microwave while it is open and on, the worse the damage - and the further you stand, the less the damage.
fortunately, they get weak fast - so 10 feet away may do nothing, while the real damage would be right in the box where it is focused.

that said - buy a new one, or talk to the manufacturer about their faulty product to get a new one (or the store where you bought it).

my father did some work with them in grad school and I used to play with the detector - it was fun to see how much leakage of microwave stuff there was around various things... esp microwaves.
