Birth Control question

Hey guys...My gf's friend was having sex and the condom broke. My gf decided to be a good friend and give her one of her own birth control pills, thinking that there was enough hormones in it to act as a day after pill. I wanna kill her. Anyway, my gf is on Tricylen Lo and it was the 3rd week of pills. She doubled up the following day but the pills are a day behind. I looked up some stuff online but couldn't find anything about an actual lost pill. She doesn't wanna call her gyno and feel stupid so I was just wondering if anyone knows what she should do. I told her to finish this pack wait for her to get her period and then start the pills when her period is over as if she was starting the pills all over again. Is this good advice or should she start the next months pills as if this never happened? Any advice will be greatly appreciated because my gf is flipping out. Thanks.

First, tell your girlfriend she isn't the first girl to miss taking a pill so she shouldn't be embarrassed about seeing her physician. She does, however, deserve a smack on the wrist for giving her prescribed medication to another person ... as good intentioned as that was. On the brighter side, I guess her friend is lucky she wasn't using D-bol :D

If your girlfirend missed taking her pills at the end or the beginning of the 21-day cycle - then the "hormone-free interval" period will be extended. If the hormone-free interval is more than 7 days, ovulation can occur and the possibility of pregnancy increases. If she missed her pills in the 1st week of the 21-day cycle you will also increase the risk of ovulation.

For Oral Contraceptives only.

If you miss 1 "active" (white) pill:
  • Take it as soon as you remember. Take the next pill at your regular time. This means you take 2 pills in one day.
  • You do not have to use a back-up method of birth control if you have sex.

If you miss 2 "active" (white) pills:
  • Take 2 pills on the day you remember and 2 pills the next day.
  • Then take 1 pill a day until you finish the pack.
  • You may become pregnant if you have sex in the 7 days after you miss pills.
  • You must use a back-up method of birth control such as condoms, spermicides or a contraceptive sponge for those 7 days.

If you miss 2 "active" (white) pills in a row in week 3:
  • If you are a Day 1 starter, throw out the rest of the pack and start a new pack that same day.
  • If you are a Sunday starter, keep taking 1 pill every day until Sunday. On Sunday, throw out the rest of the pack and start a new pack of pills that same day.
  • You may not have your period this month but this is expected. However, if you miss your period two months in a row, call your doctor or health care provider because you might be pregnant.
  • You may become pregnant if you have sex in the 7 days after you miss pills. You must use another form of birth control such as condoms, spermicides or a contraceptive sponge as a backup for those 7 days.

If you miss 3 or more "active (white) pills in a row (during the first 3 weeks):
  • If you are a Day 1 starter, throw out the rest of the pill pack and start a new pack that same day.
  • If you are a Sunday starter, keep taking 1 pill every day until Sunday. On Sunday, throw out the rest of the pack and start a new pack of pills that same day.
  • You may not have a period this month but this is expected. However, if you miss your period 2 months in a row, call your doctor or healthcare provider because you might be pregnant.
  • You may become pregnant if you have sex in the 7 days after you miss pills. You must use a back-up method of birth control such as condoms, spermicides or a contraceptive sponge for those 7 days.

Your girlfriend should really consult her physician on this though to be double sure.

I'll let you get back to your cold showers in the meantime. :D

That is about the stupidest thing I've ever heard someone doing. No offense to you, Knicks, but your gf needs some serious education on birth control pills. You sound like you know more about it than her.

IMO (well, with my pervious gf's and now my wife) she shouldn't have a problem with missing one pill---but as a precaution, I'd use a condom for the next month. I'm not familar with the type of pills she's on.

My wife uses the type that are a no-placebo pill....and sometimes, she has 2 or 3 packs going at once(!!!!) from travelling. She always knows exactly where she is in her cycle, as any woman should.

Tell your gf to smarten up, or you'll be a dad before you know it.

I'll keep this as a reference....lol...I can't believe they only make a week before they say you are protected..it used to be a month....

Hahaha..thanks for all the advice...My gf def does deserve a smack..She's definately never doing this again...I guess it will be condoms for the next month until she gets her cycle back...But atleast I'm not in the position her friend's in who had the broken condom situation.
