Bioidentical Hormones - Evaluation

New member
I just returned from a doctors visit that I scheduled to discuss my lagging metabolism. In a previously visit I told my doctor about my all of my AAS use and happy resluts. However, I was concerned about a recent abnomal weight gain 20lbs (centralized adipose, gyno) with no change in diet, exercise, or dosage. He order an urinalysis and a full blood panel (CBC, HGH, Testosterone, Thyroid, Hep, etc... ). Today he told me that the tests indicated:

1.GH levels were extremely low
2.Testosterone 1250 ng/dl (normal range upper limit 800 ng/dl)
3. I had way too little HDL(bad cholest.) way too much LDL(good cholest.) 4.creatine was too high,
5.elevated liver functions,
6.elevated Red Blood Cell and Hemoglobin levels (from gear)
7. t3 & t4 levels were on the low end of the normal range

His conclusion was that my AAS use was the cause of my sluggish metabolism. I thought that test was capable of increasing metabolism by generating new muscle tissue which burns more calories... My doctor told me that the deminished levels of GH could be caused by the excess testosterone? He told me that my hypothalmus/pituitary was responding to the elevated testosterone levels by suppressing growth factors in order to regulate my body back to homeostasis. I tried to research his claim but I found no conclusive evidence of its validity.

The most interesting part of my visit was when my doctor laid this pitch for bio-identical hormones on me... real thick. He suggested that if I was intent on taking AAS that I should do it safe. He gave me a card to a local Natural Bio Health Medical Clinic. I checked out their website and it seems to be something worth considering. It seems a lot like the whole Barry Bonds ... Balco Labs ... THG thing.

They are similar to the old fashioned concept of pharmacist with a mortar and pestle. They acquire the pure pharmaceutical grade hormone (testosterone, etc..) and compound it into the form ordered by the physician. They produce pills, capsules, liquids, and creams per the doctor’s prescription order for you.

I am quite a novice but I thought this all sounded very interesting and persuasive. Does anyone have any experience using these "natural" hormones? It seems to me that these would be better at binding to our receptor sites because they are an exact replica of our own homone molecules (like for like). These hormones come from a compounding pharmacy, which is like a regular licensed pharmaceutical company that is able to do more than most. I know almost everyone on this board knows more than me... so i thought i would run it past all of you for some input.

I copied some text from the web page below. I also included a link to the page itself.

Thanks for the help.

Bio-Identical Hormones

A natural hormone has a chemical structure that is identical to the hormone naturally produced by the body.

With the advent of genetic engineering, it is now possible to produce natural hormones that in every way match those produced by our body. The medical procedure to replenish these hormones with natural hormones is called hormone replacement therapy -- the science of simply restoring the balance of the endocrine system to that which we had at an earlier age.

It is logical to ask – if there are hormones available that are natural to my body, why do doctors prescribe synthetic hormones? The story of natural hormones is one of money, politics and education.

Natural hormones are identical in structure to the hormones naturally found in the body, and may not be patented. A patent will guarantee that a pharmaceutical company will have an exclusive right to manufacture and profit from their product. After the tremendous monetary investment that goes in to developing and studying a pharmaceutical product, it is logical that the pharmaceutical companies would want their investment protected with an exclusive, patented product. Therefore there is scarce research and minimal marketing of natural hormones. Further, since insurance generally does not pay for preventive medicine, the patient is often discouraged from using the natural hormones.
