Big screen t.v. shopping

Getting ready to buy a big screen t.v. - going to spend $1500-$2000 probably at a best buy/circuit city - is there a better place to buy?

Who out there owns big screens, what did you pay, what would you want now, features, any type of bullshit you wish you knew then that you know now.

Does HDTV make a difference? Is it necessary? Don't you need a seperate receiver any way to benefit?

I want to get a wide screen, the 16:9, but besides that it is pretty much up in the air.

Karma to anybody who helps! thx. :)

Mitsubish 65' HDTV. SWEET!!!!

If you don't buy an HDTV you'll have to by a conversion box in about 2 or 3 years or whenevery the FCC gets off its ass and says it that time people.

Yep,that's my baby.It is AWESOME,like going to the theatre.

Why have a Mitsu when you can get a Sony for a tad more!?!

Just messin'.

Anyways, do you have a Rex where you live? If so get it there. They will match any other places price PLUS they give you an extra year warranty that nobody else does.

I got one for 2599.00 @ bestbuy about a month ago. Go for it!

You'll regret if you dont.

Damn, 2599 huh? I don't know, I'll have to see if I can pull an extra few hundred out of my ass.

Did you get an hdtv receiver? Is that a necessary piece of hardware?

Did you get any monster cable etc. to connect peripherals?

With hdtv, proper setup is most important. All the big brands are decent, I think Mitsubishi and Pioneers Elite series perform best, but Sony, Toshiba and Panasonic are all good too. Id get the one that fits your space best.

We have some kind of Sony 57" wide screen thing. HDTV compatible. It's cool, I guess...

It's my husbands baby. He bought that stupid Tv before getting any furniture. When we moved into our house we had a rent a coach(ours was on order) the TV and a plastic picnic table in the dinning room.

Worst help ever.

I already had the monster cables from my old set and its amazing how much better the picture quality is on any TV with them. If you don't get them for the cable then get them for the Svideo and components out on the DVD.

Also if you don't go hdtv you will have to get a receiver in a couple of years when the FCC says hey everybody time to switch and everyone starts broadcasting in hd format.

The old one that just died was a 46" mitsubishi; it died from an horrific toddler attack. Poor thing never stood a chance.

FYI, if you get HDTV monitor, the new HDTV receiver you will have to purchase is around $700 +/-

Then you will be able to receive HDTV.

I totally respect your hubby!

A couple months ago, my brother picked up the Sony 65" Widescreen HDTV Monitor at Sears that retailed for $2800 for $2500 and 3 yr service plan......Wired it up with Bose Lifeseries speakers and sound pretty good...

Replace the Bose components with some real speakers, youll be much happier. Bose is overpriced crap thats marketed to perfection.

Circuit City and Best Buys sell a hdtv receiver for around $350-400 I believe.

Wodin - does your mitsubish have a built in hdtv receiver or is that something you also will have to invest in?
Or whoever else is hd capable.

Hum. I suppose the prices of this stuff has came down. I've had mine a year now and I paid $2500 for mine (57" Sony) and someone stated they recently got the 65" Sony for that price.

Good, I've yet to get the receiver, but if they are that cheap now I'm getting one.

Something I never understood was the price of HDTV READY tv's were all &1000-$2000 more then the monitors. Which you could purchase the receiver for $700 extra. Doesn't make sense to me.

The HDTV models have the receiver built in.

Yes, but they are A LOT more expensive than simply buying a HDTV monitor & adding the receiver.

That's what confusses me.

I have a 57 in Sony HDTV 16:9 TV. In my lounge room I have an LCD projector which connects to cable and computer and puts out a crystal clear 10 feet. Only downside is the room cannot be too bright and it is not good for everyday use.

In a few years all of these big projections will be obsolete even if they have built in hdtv tuners. Almost like how the tvs in the 70s were like pieces of funiture with cabinets built in...

Your paying for the added "convienance".

What are you watching now? cable, satellite? Sat is the best for quality but cable now has premium picture options , but I`d still go with sat`s digital quality. You def need the receiver. I would`nt get the "built in" variety with the TV.

You can also have a rooftop or attic antena to watch over the air signals from the local networks in HD. Or pay for some premium HD channels. NOT ALL channels are HD only a select few but growing.

As of about a year ago Pioneer Elite was the best IMO. but you can`t go wrong with a Sony. Be careful it`s easy to under estimate the amount of $$ you`ll end up paying for cables. I would just go directly with component video cable instead of the S-Video cables. They are better for picture quality. Good luck

and I would shop around after you`ve decided on the exact model you want. there ARE some deals to be had.
