Big Dog choppers...

I was in Witchita, Kansas for a couple months last year and I checked out their manufacturing plant and it was pretty sweet. We got a tour of the place and their mechanics told us all about the bikes. They are really sweet, the bulldog is one of my favorites. I also really like the new Ridgeback. The S and S motors are very clean and well built. Although all the motors in every bike is pretty much the same. The only downfall is like what deteras said, they are priced really high. Even the mechanic was saying you could buy all the parts yourself and build one cheaper than what they sell them for. I have looked into some of those kit bikes for around $15k, and thats a fairly good deal. I would love to own a chopper, just can't afford one right now. Just make sure you get one with the hidden suspension and not a rigid frame if you like riding for a whole day.

2004 Big Dog Ridgeback $25,250

107" S&S show polished $7900.00
Jim's 6 speed $1250.00
Rolling Thunder Rigid Frame $1500.00
Various PM accessories $5,000
Odds and ends (primaries etc.) $5,000
Paint at a decent shop $2,000- $2,500
Labor to put together.........ha ha
(numbers may not be dead on, but after building my own bikes for the last 10 years, I'm pretty fucking close)

Warranty and NADA Value = Priceless

Yeah, you can build the bike for less......and next year it will be worth half of what you put into it.

Don't get me wrong, I've spent $42,000 so far building my latest baby, but I've got something wrong with me.

For the mechanically uninclined Big Dog and Ironhorse are the way to go. :)

I don't agree.Look on ebay and the prices of nice custom built bikes are high.
I could build a custom bike and probably make a small profit off it.

Uh, I do this for a living.......E-Bay is no way of measuring the value of a bike.

If you build a bike, with the same quality components that are on the Big Dog, you may save a little. Put 2500 miles on it, and it will depreciate faster than you can blink an eye.

Big dogs are pretty sweet bikes. They had a bunch in denver for the easy rider custom bikes show. They are solid built and as far as customs go not very expensive (the bourget I want is $65,000). I like their styles and paint jobs and wouldn't mind at all having one.

Cheers,
Scotsman

No problem. I had a sweet Candy Apple Red Ridgeback for sale up until last Thursday, it really is a sweet bike, a little too "cookie cutter" for me, but for the guy just getting into stretched or raked frames, it handles really well, in fact, better than any stock Harley I have ever had. :)
