Best Mp4 player for PC?

Yo guys I recently found out how to convert mp3's and wav's into mp4's.

I tried with a few songs, and while they do sound a bit better, they don't sound THAT MUCH better. I used both Winamp and Quicktime to play these files... Is there a special player out there that plays MP4's better, or is everything out there pretty much the same in terms of quality?

Please explain the difference b/w Mp3 and MP4? (advantages and disadvantages)
Can mp3s be compressed into a much smaller file if converted to MP4?

Actually, no. I made an MP4 with 448 quality that was about 18 megs for a 6 minute song. I'm not sure about the intricacies, but it's supposed to be better quality than MP3.
