Belly Button Piercing

Okay, weird question, but....

Say you take out a navel piercing after about 8 years of having it in. Will the hole close back up? Or will there always be a little hole there?

There is no such thing as a stupid question!!
Anyway, the hole will close up, however, there will remain scar tissue under the skin where the piercing used to be.
The little hole that you see there is a small scar.
