However, whenever I try to get the balls to try to get to know the person I always go blank on what to say. Does anyone have any experiences like this? How did you overcome them?

It's a little difficult, when someone is on your mind, they are on your mind... I'm not sure why people think like this, but some do... I really don't have an absolute cure for it, other than just to chill out, take a step back... and keep your mind occupied with other things.

ummmm.......If you want to get over your obsession or whatever... every time you see this person - in your mind - point out all of their flaws....the lust your feeling will subside if you think they are ugly...better yet - dont go around them anymore and you will soon forget

Growing balls would seem to help...
However, I think he asked for PRODUCTIVE ideas... since he's asking about this, I don't think growing balls will help at this stage.

Approach them where? In a bar? at school? There are tons of different ways to approach someone... think of something to talk to them about... ask them a question... you'll have to find out a little bit about them...

I had this problem before and it eventually went away. Unfortunately there is a girl that works in my building that I just think the world of, but she's currently dating someone. It sucks because I see her and talk to her everyday, its unavoidable. Its hard to get over this at least to me it just takes time.

just get better night vision goggles and all will be better.
Get drunk and then slur how much you love her, that should do the trick, you won't have to avoid her because as soon as she sees you you won't see her for dust.
OR/
Try to just talk to her about something normal, like if you see her getting some food, join the queue and ask her what 's nice, that sort of thing. Try to engineer a situation where you could talk to her with out it being weird and stalker like, don't be too obvious.
If you do get talking, try to be a bit mysterious, don't cross over into friend territory, and whatever you do don't tell her how much you like her, hint at it, but keep her on her toes, if you're too easy then she won't be interested, women love a challenge.
Also, if you have any female friends that you are close with and that you trust, they can be a goldmine of tips for how to approach this sort of thing.
Failing that, just find the nearest slapper and throw her a bone. As burnboy said, it's a great way to get over someone.

Find one thing about her that could be gross.. if you cannot find it.. imagine it.
Like her teeth.. or her fingernails.. or the way her eyes are shaped. Or the nose.. that is a easy one. This works.. just keep thinking about that.. soon you will be repulsed by her.
