Becoming is this a Good Deal for the Stang?

I don't know bro - it is a decent price (not a gift by any means), but it would have to be gone over with a fine toothed comb...

I like the look of those 71-73 fastbacks too - they are pimp as hell... I don't think that there is a big demand for those years tho...

I am not an expert on mustangs or anything but here is what I know (or think I do, LOL)

First question is if it is a real Mach1 (it says it is) well first the engine isn't original 71s only came with Cleveland 351s, not windsor 351s, so at the very least - the engine isn't original.... It doesn't say what kind of trans - so I will assume that is not original either....Also I would check the numbers and see what the factory options were on it (see if they match up)... A real Mach 1 will also have staggerd rear shocks, power steering (which leaked usually and had to be replaced) but then also any car with large engine displacement 71 also got this, not just the mach1s

Seems like a good deal of restoration work was done on it (including rear quarters mentioned) - that is pretty important for those cars structurally cause they are unibody - if the work was quality, maybe, if not, no way - it would maybe be better to restore yourself - cause that way you know the exactly what had been done... It placed well - but it isn't driven a lot, so it may just LOOK good (and it does look good)... the integrity is the important thing...

I have seen cars that LOOK great, but are waiting to fall apart any minute cause the resto work was crap once you look under the pretty package. In mustangs things like the rear torque boxes, rear quarters, floor panels, cowl etc are very important to integrity of the car and need to be really inspected closely (and a fully resto'd car doesn't always lend to this...)

Also personally I would not buy someone else engine rebuild - I would rather do it myself or have it done myself.... are you buying someone else's fuck up? If I was going ot buy one I would not pay extra for the engine no matter what was on it - cause chances are I will have to throw a new one in myself anyways.... (and I would want to) Also it says he doesn't drive it much, so the engine might be running great when you get it and go to hell in a year if it is a crappy rebuild (that happend with a car I had)

I would say it is not original anyways - so the dude is either lying or he doesn't understand the meaning of original - and you can't charge original type prices (or even a discount off them) if it is not original... I would say best case scenario - maybe worth 8-9-10 grand cause there is not much demand... that is if everything checks out, the rebuild was good and the body is solid...

Personally tho I would get an average fastback sans engine and trans - drop in my own engine and tranny, suspension, etc - and do it up with Mach1 hood etc... Do it the way I want, my own options, etc....

Just my 2c... anyone may disagree...

:)

Dang dude you know your shit. I am not to good of a mechanic ok to be honest I am a shitty one. So I wouldn't want to mess with any of that. I just want to drive the thing and haul ass. Is the windsor as good as the cleveland?

they are completely different I don't know the list of differences by heart, but there are a lot of them - parts are not interchangeable for them most part and I think not at all- the windsor is more the common engine people think of - the cleveland is slightly different, in some ways better performance, but in some ways a pain in the ass with its own problems, etc.... you have to know the difference and each has its own tricks/nuances...

If I had money to burn - I would buy one from www.karautogroup.com (they have professionally evaluated mustangs by people who know mustangs - and can look for what you want specifically and know the common mustang pitfalls)

I would ask them how much to find me something that is NOT original, but IS structurally and functionally sound (tell them you don't care to restore it - but you are going to mod it and don't want to spend money on anything other than making sure it is in good condition to work with to start)

then maybe take it in somewhere to get some engine/suspension/trans/brake mods, etc the way you want it...
