Background check ?

What all do they check when a company runs a background check on you before they hire you? The reason I am asking is I lied about the reason I was fired from a job in 2002 and I have a DUI in 2001. I did tell them I was fired. Will this come up. Can they find out what I was paid in previous jobs?
Thats all I am worried about. Credit is good so I hope they do run that.

Thanks all for any input and K if I can give it to you.

background checks usually are just criminal record. do you register every 90 days like you are sposed to after that sodomy stint you served time for?

They will likely verify whether or not you were actually employed and they can find out your income. That is all. Your former employer, provided they are smart, will not disclose why. I think it was smart and honest of you to tell them that you were fired.

Despite my profession, criminal law isn't one of my strong points. Was the DUI a felony or misdemeanor? Most job applications just ask about felonies. If they do a complete criminal background check, it will come up. Though unless you are driving a car for the job, I don't see why that should hurt you.

Okay cool thanks for info. Yes saint I register every 90 days, but thanks for the reminder and for caring. Jack Schitt I can't give you any K right now. Thanks for the web page. I'll check it out. I'm not sure what the DUI was. I just now it cost me a hell of a lot of money and I will never do it again. Plus I don't even drink now. I will not have to drive for the job so maybe I'm fine with that.

What kind of company runs background checks on you? Is there a legitimate need for it? Like working with children, or security for a sensitive company?

If it's just to weed people out -- fuck 'em. I respect my privacy and my past will NOT be investigated just for the asking. It shows such a distrust of people right off the bat, and is not a good omen for the employee/employer culture that awaits you. I'd stay away from such companies.

Shame on citizens that give away their privacy and freedoms *just* for the asking with one simple form. And they have the audacity to blame the government.
