B5 for acne, how many of you ladies have tried it?

Been hearing a few things about B5 and acne. How many of you have tried B5 (pantothenic acid) for acne either on or off a cycle? Does it work and did you experience any sides?

I am using it now, 2 grams split into 4 dosages daily. I have just started to try this, it is only my 3rd day, so no drastic changes yet! I am also supplementing with zinc, but I have heard that you can not take zinc too long because it is metallic (?). I'm not sure about that. I also use proactive (yes from the info-mercial with the Mom from Who's the boss :cyclops:). There is a mask they make that you can use daily and it seems to be helping. I am hopefull that I will see some changes from the B5. I will keep you updated. :)

I have had WONDERFUL results with B5! I've had adult acne for years. It was so bad in my late 20's that I went on Accutane. That kept me clear for about 5 years. My acne since then has never been as bad, but I don't want ANY zits! :)

I have used everything else from the dermatologist (pills and topicals) but nothing was a complete success. I was ready to go on Accutane again, when I read about B5 on this board and decided to give it a try.

I started at 1 gram a day and worked up. Skin COMPLETELY cleared dosing at 6 grams (2 grams 3/x a day) over a few weeks, and now I'm tapering down to see what happens.

Be patient - it takes a few weeks to see results.

I've tried taking one 500mg dose per day, and that doesn't work. Sounds like I need to take it at least 2-3 times a day for results....

...I'm not on gear but I've always had acne on my back and shoulders...

....more pills...gag!

Accutane Every time, for an all out blast..

I suffered from Acne throughout my teenage youth.

I did every antibiotic and topical cream/solution known to the British market.

I had bad, acne, not due to a/s of course at this stage (18 yrs old) we're talking chronic on the face, neck shoulders, back, and worst of all chest, which is no confidence picnic for a teenage girl.

However I tried B5 and it did nothing... however evybody is different. I knew girls who had bad skin and weaker things worked for them, like Retin-A Gel, but the only pisser with things like that is no no tanning beds or heavy sunshine, because they will burn you.

But .. Ro-Accutane which I took at 19, and yes the side effects were crap, and I probably wouldn't put up woth them now at 29, it was a miracle drug and totally cleared it for good. Worth all the hassle, expense and the bloodwork checks. it's the best.

However, you still get the odd bump on the chin every 28 days, but who dosen't?

As far as a/s goes, when I did my first course (Deca) I got very spotty on the back only, and was panicking, because I didn't want all that shit again. But after a good thrre months it slowly dissappeared, and for such an acne prone person, I was surpised but it did.

If you are going to use Ro-Accutane after a course, my g-d make sure that course is long outta there, because the Accutane is so very harsh on the liver.

Just my two pence sterling.

Sheena..:)

Wow, i've never tried B5 for break outs. I've always had aome problems with beaking out on my chest /back where my sprorts bra rubs. And they were painful! I hated it, even though it wasn't a lot. Also around my chin, mouth. I went to my nurse practitioner and she prescribed a low dose of doxycycline. I love it! It works for me and it is inexpensive.

Didn't work at all!!!!!!!

Didn't have any luck with B5 or Mycelized A.
Nothing worked but getting off and staying off.
