Automatic Car Starters.... ????

AAP

Plat Hero
Platinum
You see them advertised in magazines that you can start your car while inside your house in the winter and it warms up for you while you wait inside for a few minutes.

Ok, my question is how do they start without the key being in there. I mean.... if you have to insert the key, you can start it yourself. No one is going to leave the key inside overnight. And..... could you have one where it would start your car so the AIR CONDITIONER runs and cools the interior off before you get in?

I ask because I take my truck to the beach as I don't care to get sand in my Benz. But it is smothering when you get in the truck. If I could start it from a distance with the air going on MAX.....

The system bypasses the collumn ignition switch to the starter. No key needed just the remote after it is installed.
Vehicles that have the keys with security chips in them are usually a problem but the systems can be coded to allow it to start even without those keys.

RICH BOY EH?

YOUR BENZ GOT ONE OF THEM INFRARED IGNITION KEYS?

My truck had that installed as part of the alarm system. And yes, if you turn the AC controls to ON, the AC will start up when the truck does.

I can start it from the alarm control fob on the key ring.

The only problem I have is that the IR range on the fob is getting shorter and shorter. I have to be almost next to the truck before it starts. I changed out the batteries in the fob, but it did not improve the range.

Have you tried cleaning the actual receiving unit? It could have a grime coat on it that is reducing its sensitivity to the transmitter....

Sounds good to go.... how much does one of these things go for? And when it is started, do you still have to put the key in?

My Benz has the option that you press the button and all the windows go down and the sun roof slides open to let the heat out. But my truck is like an oven....

Poor you...

Damn, I wish Jae would hook me up with a good job...

I still have to work you know.

Why not ask him. He has done contracts at most big name places.

Great dude, he even provides a way to surf the net without the computer geeks knowing what site you log on to.

Oh, I know... not trying to take away anything from you... you must be doing something right eh?

I have asked him before... but I'm not a computer guy, I'm a writer...

Jae, is a great guy. No doubt.

BTW - I am not a computer guy either, I just worked in HR. Where do you live? Most of his contacts are in the South. Being that word of mouth makes the best network, that is how it often operates.

Of course the bitch had $$ motivation to place me as he got a referal fee. And didn't share.

It depends on the brand you get. They got some really good ones complete with alarms that can open/close your windows and sunroofs, start your car or unlock it from a payphone and even open your doors so you don't have to use any of your own strength to get into a car...Those cost over $500.00.

For just the remote start your looking at around $200.00 installed. You do need the key to actually drive the car. The remote start will start it but they have a security device in it that shuts the car off if you step on the brake. Its to keep someone from jumping in and taking off with it...So you still need tht key to actually go someplace.

If your car is a stick shop around to different places. Some people wont install them on sticks due to the extra liability in those. I've seen people acidentally turn the car on because they sat on their keys in their pockets and the car went through a wall because they left it in gear.
I got the remote start in my car but they only put it in cause I knew the guy...Just becareful, i dont think insurance pays for stupidity.

Victus - Thanks for the info. My truck is an auto. All I care about is starting it while I am at the beach and then walking over and getting in after it is cool. I don't care for the windows or door thing. What a waste of money there.

Do I have to tell my insurance company this?

If that bad karma I got signed by 2 ton was really from him, then he has serious insecurity issues.

Are you really a writer? No joke? What do you write?

Excuse me for snipping from my agency bio...

Yep, yep. I'm a senior copywriter at an ad agency. I make my living by writing and editing copy for sales and training CD-ROMs, Web sites, Web banner ads, print collateral, print ads, radio, TV, sales and training videos, newspaper display and classified ads, direct-mail, consumer catalogs, newsletters, branding and style materials, HR recruiting pieces, trade show elements, public-relations features, news releases, POP items, speeches and special events components.

My advertising work and training materials have appeared globally in seven languages. My public relations work has been published in a range of national magazines, and in dozens of newspapers nationwide. My nonfiction writing has appeared in several of my home state's magazines and newspapers, and in the form of a supplemental textbook for ****** College in ******. Several of my fiction pieces have been produced for radio by Avatar Studios, also in *****.

I still write creatively (fiction); I've posted several of my newer fiction pieces here -- ATBG segments (still in progress) and a couple random blurbs: Georgia, the Perfect Moment, etc...

automatic starts are pretty ingenious, if the truck has a computer key *most post model year 95 cars do* then they use whats known as a bypass module, often times with the systems out these days a key is required for this bypass module, it is then placed in the module and buried in the dash near the steering column thus tricking the system into thinking the key is in the ignition.

As for using A/C a word of warning, never have the AC cranked to max as you can blow a fuse, either in the starter or the car itself, the Air conditioning system requires quite a bit of power and without the car actually being on it can overload a fuse. *this is more prominent in Ford vehicles for some reason its a design issue*

Oh, I didn't know that, I thought he only did computer stuff.

I live in the Midwest. But am looking to relocate if it's to my family's advantage (we're bored of where we live anyway).

Yeah, I remember you posting about his finder's fee. Funny!

Machine - He probably has the inside track on most corporations. He seems to be popular everywhere he goes.

Now about your writing... have you had work published in a book form?

I am asking because I plan on writing a book. No joke. Story of my life. With details of my time on the "O" team, etc..

I had a small press run of a college textbook, but probably not the type of experience you are looking for. I do hope to one day have a larger body of work published in book form, but that means I actually have to finish some of my fiction projects... lol...

There is a large publisher here that I am chipping away at to get a job as editor for some of their SIPs (special interest publications); that would include book work and magazine work.

As to your story — write it!

I asked my insurance carrier about discounts associated with car alarms, since that is basically what it is. They declined my request, since it was an alarm, not a GPS location system like LoJak.

Bastards.

state farm gave me a 10% discount for having an alarm system...........on comprehensive only, not the entire policy.

but since my car resembles a state police vehicle, i never have bothered to use the damn thing.
