Q: Head to head, what's better, Arimidex or Nolvadex? What's the difference anyway? How do I use either and should I use both together? Will using them really stop me from achieving maximal growth?
A: Hands down, for bodybuilding purposes, Arimidex (anastrazole) is far better than Novadex (tamoxifen). Their mechanisms of action are quite different. Arimidex is a potent aromatase inhibitor which can all but totally prevent Testosterone (or any aromatizable androgen) from converting to estrogen. Nolvadex is a competitive estrogen agonist; it competes against estrogen already formed by binding preferentially at the estrogen receptor (where it works as a very weak estrogen agonist). You only want to use either if you're using an aromatizable steroid.
However, I'd prefer to not have any excess estrogen in my system in the first place as opposed to ingesting something to compete against it. If you have access to Arimidex, I'd suggest loading 2 to 3 mg on the first day of the cycle, followed by 1/2mg every day while "on." This is good for up to around 750 mg of Testosterone per week, or the equivalent thereof.
For Nolvadex, one might find that 10 mg per day, every day while on is good to cover the equivalent of 500 mg of Testosterone per week. I'd start with 30mg on day one. Using both at the same time is probably redundant and not warranted.
You might be limited to Nolvadex as Arimidex is tough to find and ridiculously expensive. I've seen zero evidence that either of them will inhibit or impede growth while on a cycle and I'd postulate that this "effect" is a rumor started by a certain recently deceased guru.
