Arginine ASPARTATE

Lumberg

New member
Hi, I{m in Costa Rica caring for my sick dad and one of his drugs is ampules of arginine aspartate. According to the label one drinks 1-4 ampules a day of this stuff and it is for people who are really weak, have sexual dysfunction, and even to stimulate growth hormone (!) in kids with stunted growth.
So I was wondering if this drug may have applications to bodybuilding???

Just wondering,

JC

I did a follow search... it is a highly "questionable" substance... not that it is really harmful... but simply that it doesn't really seem to do much. It has a variety of "folk" treatements, much akin to GH3. It is cloaked with science... packaged often as a near drug (hence the ampules) and for the most part is no different than taking regular arginine which is just an amino acid. It is loosely linked to GH release (though more correctly it is a GH releasing factor), sexual improvement (via nitric oxide release) and an immune stimulant. I doubt it is very effective at any of the above; however, the mind is a powerful thing. People like their witch doctor products... especially when they look scientific.

2g of L-arginine about 30 minutes prior to sex will have a great effect...I've used it for this very reason for a couple of years...post workout 2-4g of L-arginine will increase glycogen storage by 25-40%....it's a great supplement and dirt cheap

I agree with all that sofaG has to say. I would like to add however high levels of arginine has been shown to reduce the bodies ability to fight viral infections, in fact I have read that in very high doses it makes the body a virtual breeding ground for viral infection. It is not to be used by HIV or Herpes sufferers.
