Do you think that wer really need those supps ?

Don't you think that only real food can cover the whole enchilada?

supps are def not overrated. If youre someone that has a hard time p[uttng on size youll know what i mean. I think a lot of it does have to do with the menal aspect of working out, and yes youre right a lot of supps do not do what they are supposed to. The best supp out there is eatng right and taking some kind of protein suppliment.

I agree with cheeta...
if you need 1.5 grams of protein per pound bodyweight to maintain on muscle and you weigh 270 pounds like myself you don't want to have to eat 8 6 oz chicken breasts, one every 2 hours or so... It is much easier to mix in 3 or 4 protein shakes... Strangely enough, I am eating a dry chicken breast right now... On the flip side there are definitely a lot of overrated supplements out there....

If you can get a hold of the hospital grade stuff, youll see that there very useful. often the corporate stuff is impure and largely garbage.
Hospital grade protiens, and amio acids will work wonders for you.

I should've really read this post first, before making my own thread about supplements.

I haven't been using ANY supplements (not even protein powder) for quite a while now.... and have found my results to be as good, maybe even better then when I was taking protein, creatine and other things. Perhaps I wasn't using them properly? Either way.... I'm maintaining muscle at only 1g protein per pound of bodyweight, even gaining a bit.... and I'm happy with the results, so I won't be wasting any more money on supplements.

In the case of most bodybuilers I think they are necessary if for nothing other than cost effectiveness and convenience. If you need 250g of protein per day it's very hard to get it inexpensively from chicken and other lean protein sources. Then you ahve the time it takes to prepare your food. I can get a pound of milk protein Isolate for 5.99/lb and it doesn't have the carbs, fat and lactose but maintains the mineral content of milk. This gives me extremely bioavailable forms of calcium, magnesium and zinc which many diets are lacking. I can make a bowl of oatmeal and a protein shake in a matter of minutes. Also, due to the nature of modern farming practices friuts and vegetables don't have the nutritional value they did 100 years ago which makes a cheap multivitamin a good insurance policy. I consume roughly 1/3 of my fat calories from fish oils which becomes very expensive if one has to use salmon as a major source as opposed to isolated capsules. Finally, it's hard to make a good workout/post-workout shake without using supplements.

We dont "need" a lot things in this life, but those things often help a great deal. Most supps are overrated, and yet a few, are underrated...

Besides protein powder , nothing else interest me in this magic world of supps.....At least it seems to work for me!

The key....

It's all about being a savvy consumer.

It's not just bodybuilding. Do you really want to pay the $$$ for Levis? Are they better jeans? No. Are you paying for the name? Yes.

Lots of supplements are snake oil. Some have a benefit, but are too pricey for what they deliver. Some are the real McCoy, but you have to shop around to get the best quality at the best price or you're tossing money in the dumpster.

im working on whey pro, going to buy some flax oil soon, and multivitamens. thinking about some dextrose for post w/o shake. thats about it. not too bad money wise... i think a lot of supp companies survive off the "placebo" effect that their supps cause. placebo is VERY powerful.... where the mind goes, the body follows, if you can mentally dominate this sport, i think you will obtain any goal u set for yourself. im working on the mental part now.... who knows
