I had a 2003 Dodge Ram with 4.7l. The best I could do was 11-12 mpg city.

GM trucks are average for reliability..

People buy Fords and Dodges IMO not because they are better trucks,
but because their Daddy did and said so..

The only issue I had with Chevy's was the transmissions. I had a Silverado and a Custom Deluxe. Got popped about $1200 on both trannys.....

I had a 1994 GMC Sonoma (Chevy, GM same thing right in terms of quality?) That thing never broke down or caused me trouble. It had 125k miles when I sold it. Horrible mileage though

So, then I purchased a 2005 Corolla for the gas mileage, but I sure do miss driving my truck!

Buy anything but a domestic if you want reliability :)

As previously posted ... I'd like to get a full size Toyota or Nissan V8, but you're not touching either for $16k.

For sure but that's part of why they are far more reliable. It's shitty because if you don't have the cash or credit on hand, you buy something less reliable and end up paying more in the long run.

i hate dodge. i have a new duramax diesel chev. this thing hauls ass. i love it when the ricers pull up beside my jacked up chev and blow the doors off them. its great

Many, many peeps have problems with chevy transmissions.

Of the american cars, Ford has the best reliabilty rating.

Thats not true.Chevy and Ford has good tranny's.

Chrysler has the worst tranny's.

I've never owned a chevy, but EVERYBODY that I've known that had a chevy has had tranny problems.

This spans across all years and makes of the chevy trucks.

My last 97 chevy truck i owned had 152k on the original tranny with no problems.

im not going to disagree even being a chev guy. ive had tranny probs in 2 of my chevs. but i dont really care it would ndot make me not buy one. i love chev i would never own anything else.

Dude, you can go wrong with the chevy. I got an 02' and havn't had one sitting at 76k miles now. My dad has a 2000 suburban and it has 195k miles not one drive train problem. The chevy motor is the best and gets good mileage well for trucks anyway. Stay away from dodge they may look good but they suck!

Yeah, my 03 Dodge Ram was a shortbed with just a 4.7l and I just got 11mpg "city". Hope the Chevy 4.8 does better than that!

It all comes down to percentages of vehicles that are over the long haul Good,
Average and Bad mechanically..

You can get a lemon Toyota/Nissan etc, and you can have a Dodge last 200K miles.

Some manuf just have higher percentages on both ends of the scale..
Since my vehicles are long term owns, I go with the better odds..

True, and I'm very easy on my vehicles and alway run synthetic oils. The last couple of years I've only averaged about 6k miles per year thanks to company vehicles.

i drive a chevy s-10... 1996 with 156K on it... 4 cylinder and still going!!!

ya, it's nothing great, but STILL GOING!!!

Med Dark Red Pearl Coat called Molten Lava.. very cool as it changes tone
depending of the time of day, sunlight.

Wow that sounds like a cool color. Extended or reg cab? Btw the only thing that I don't like about my truck is the roof makes noise(like metal bending) on windy days. Does yours do that?

I'm thinking about silver or dark gray metalic. My last 2 vehicles have been red ... time for a change.

My first mods will be K&N air filter and flowmaster exhaust.

Exactly. That's why I would never touch a Ford, Chevy, Dodge etc.

The chances of them having mechanical problems or worse is much greater than Nissan, Toyota et al.

I have a Nissan Extended (king) cab. 2 door
I would not own a truck without at least the small extended cab to stash stuff and keep it locked in behind the seats. Mine has the jump seats in back for kid emergency use only.

Some of the 4 door cabs have floppy roof panels due to the sheer amount of metal up there.. Mine makes no noise .

chevy or gmc are great trucks i have a 90 gmc that i plow with sometimes for 20hrs
at a time and i drive it hard have had very few problems with it starts every time
has close to 200000 on it the body will go before the drive train

The only reason why people get a Ford or Dodge is for the looks. That's the only thing lacking with Chevy/GMC trucks (they are ugly!). In all other categories though, Chevy/GMC will blow the socks off their domestic rivals.

omg you serious???

BTW, The same company that quoted me $15,800 for the Chevy quoted me $17,900 for a similar equipped FORD.

I got an '02 Avalanche.....worse thing that that has happened is the break hitch rusted out and my breaks went at about 40mph.......that was def. 1 of the top 3 scariest moments of my life.....esp. with a red light about 200 yards away.....
