aquarium question

I am getting a new aquarium (i think) and I was wondering if the filters that hang on the back of the tank are worth getting too. I want a 50 gallon for my bluegill, he outgrew my 30, and I am wondering if the hangon filters are worth a shit or not.

A bluegill? Interesting fish for an aquarium. I used to love fishing for them on a light tackle set. Those fuckers fight! How big is he?

Hey cutie...I use to have a tank..I liked the filter's that went under the gravel..It seemed to filter out more of the debris!

WHY DO YOU HAVE BLUGILL? Are you shittn me?

Salt water fish are sooooo much "purtier".

I have a blue gill name Bobafette. I caught him when he was about 2.5" on my fly rod. I threw him in my tank and he is now pushing 7". he is an awesome fish. Not shy, fucks up other fish if I throw them in there, and he eats like a pig. Only problem is he is so mean he has to live by himself.

what's a good brand filter to get kingjohn?

your best bet is to use the under gravel and an over the back filter.... (I have 3 55 gallon tanks) .. use a power head on the undergravel (pulls out the solid waste and the bacteria digest the waste) and use an over the back filter (help get rid of the chemical waste by using carbon.... the tank will stay very clear..

This is good advice.

I've had a saltwater reef aquarium sales and service business for over 8 years. Good part time job but full time sucks because of all the problems people have from overfeeding etc.

I have about 6 used 55 gallon tanks and lots of filters. Make you a smoking deal if you don't bug me too much with questions. Turning a hobby into a profession takes the fun out of it I find.

Yep...North America has the meanest fish on the planet. Put Piranhas and North American game fish together and the piranhas will get fucked up I bet. :)

hey test, I can get a new 50 gallon with hood for $100 at pet smart. Can you beat that deal? That would be cool though. I had a crawdad in with him and he killed it. And this was back when he was small. They were both the same size. I love to throw in around a dozen rosie reds and watch him go to town. he gets so amped up that he runs into the rocks and shit and gets beat up but doesn't care.

undergravel filters are better for salt water tanks due to the incredibly difficult water cycles the tank has to go through.. i'd stick with the power filters (back hangers) if it was for fresh water...the water cycle is shorter and once you get good biological build up on the power filter you are all set. if you want the best filter find yourself a magnum... they are old school but work wonders. hell, i dont even know if they make them anymore... i used to work at a fish store, fun times... fun times...

100 for a 50 and hood isnt too bad actually, providing its a flourescent hood.. if its incandescent you are getting raped hard.

i recommend the emporer 400 or the magnum 250 for your 50 gal.

the easiest is the magnum canister. always buy the biggest you can afford, and the min. your tank requires.

bluegill as a pet? aquariums are for exotic and strange fish.
