Anyone work for UPS

I shipped a small boat motor to someone and when they got it, it was crushed. UPS droped it so hard, the oil came out of the crankcase. UPS pick it back up at the guys house, looked at it and sent it back to me, saying "inadequite packaging" When they pick it up from my house, the driver said it was "good to go" Also, when UPS picked the motor up from the guy, they never even asked to see how it was packaged. ( the guy just put it back into the box without the packing). He had insurance on the shipment. How do I work with UPS to resolve this? It is VERY clear that it was dropped very hard. How do I prove neglect on UPS'S part?

call there customer service, and i can tell u as a former loader that those packages were mishandled while in transit.

You used to be a loader, too? Man is that a shitty job or what? Try gaining or even maintaining muscle while doing that job in the height of summer!

I used to work at ups as a loader... and if i had a dollar for every package i squished to hell id be fuckin rich. Ups will try everything to weasle out of any claim filed against them. I hate that fucking company and i hope you get your money back. If they didnt treat their employees like shit they wouldnt have disgruntled workers tossing packages with reckless abandon

Funny, I've always thought they were a solid company. Run much like how I imagine the Army is run. They were up front about what it was like to work. In training they said it is going to be brutal and to bring lots of water and that they understood if anyone wanted to drop out.

I had to work the day shift because I had football training in the a.m. and class in the p.m.

I got the job in the summer between getting my B.S. and going to grad school; I took a class and got it paid for by their education assistance program; it worked for me but I had to move on to bigger and better things, if you know what I mean.

If anyone is thinking about becoming a loader, start studying those zip codes right away. Practice everyday until you become a sorter.

I just started this past week as a loader. I hope it's not as bad as you people are making it sound. Is it really good for cutting?? Should I still do plenty of cardio at the gym?

the main reason it was bad for me is because I had the hardest truck with the most volume in the whole damn place... and id say about 50% of the boxes were 40 lbs or more which doesnt seem like much but when u get over 1000 in a 4 and half hour span, its hell. Not to mention the person next to me couldnt keep up with his wimpy trucks so i had to throw his fuckin packages back to him. I ended up with tendonitis in both elbows so i just quit.

You do not need to do cardio if you are a loader at UPS. Start studying those zip codes! At myplace they had a computer room wher you could go practice before and after your shift. Take advantage of this!!!!

PS It won't be so bad now that the weather is cold.

Fuck working at UPS. I did it one summer for 3 weeks. The worst work experience of my life. I'll put it like this. I was in the Army and my worst hour of basic training couldn't touch an hour at UPS.

So let's say that after a long shift, A 80 pound boat motor comes across the line. You are tired and "CRACK" it hit the floor. Hey, I understand, but then when UPS says that it wasn't packaged good enough, that pisses me off. 80 pounds would pop every bubble in bubble wrap. This motor looks like it fell off the back of a truck or the conveyor. I will call cust service today.

I worked at UPS for 5 years.. I loved working there..

Started as a loader and got good at it, real good... I'd work the busiest loads in the Orlando Hub by myself, scanning everything, breaking my own jams, etc..

We used to have a competition on who was the best/fastest loader, I won 5 months straight then became a PT sup on the PD. My record was 1600 packages loaded to specs in one hour.. Some guys were lucky to get over 1000 scanned in one night..

I liked the pickoff position (secondary sorting on the belts).. Talk about tricep work..

I eventually worked my way up into management and into the IT department.. The sky was the limit, I dont doubt that I would be upper management had I not been forced to resign for saying the wrong thing to the wrong person. I then realized that UPS management doesnt pay shit compared to these other companies that are out there.

That's an inspiring story wookie. Those loading numbers are impressive. Where do you work now?

I moved down to Ft. Laud after college in Orlando and am working IT at large Telecom/Networking company.. I wont name them, but they are huge in Europe & the rest of the world and are starting to get a better market in the USA..

I liked the intensity of working at UPS. I wanted to quit at first because it was pretty overwhelming. There is a lot of yelling, hard work, oportunity to get hurt (those buildings are all metal and cement)..

I've carried that work ethic with me to other places and honestly these other companies don't know what to do with someone who busts their ass like that.

**Note: I ship my stuff through the post office because its amazing the way some of these packages are handled. Rare occasions lead me to use UPS when shipping..

There have been countless times that I ran over a pile of boxes to break a jam. The smaller facilities probably have good package handling, but when a facility is trying to pump out 200,000 packages in a 3.5-4 hour sort things get messy.

My ex-wife has worked at UPS for a little over three years and she just got a promotion to manager. She'll break six figures this year not including the $15,000-$20,000 she'll get in stock. However, she doesn't work in operations, she's in business development and gets bonuses for reaching sales targets. From what I've heard operations is the worst area in the company to be in management.

Cool beans bro--congrats on your success. Our facility was the same way. I had the luck to work on the lightest belt though, we took more care and we regularly got the pizza award for the least mis-scans :)

My manager was a dick too, every once in a while he would throw in some bad packages to make sure we were checking. Got me almost every time. Luckily we had an awesome pick-off guy so it didn't hurt us much--he was the guy who won us the pizza!

Dawookie--ever heard of the UPS stomp?
