Anyone run SolidWorks

Frisky

~QUEEN BITCH~
Platinum
anyone? anyone?

I've been given this new 'job' of getting some current models, drawing, parts on a remote drive or dvd for our investors. Well... I wish it were easy, but due to the arrangment of parts etc, you have to run a search beings I may use the same pump in 10 or so assemblies its in its own location... that goes for lots of other pieces. Well, think i have that in check but now the only way to get all my dwg's transferred is to ONE BY ONE convert them into pdf's :worried:

I have thousands of drawings and at this rate it will take forever.

I haven't had any luck with tech support, and was wondering if anyone here is running Solidworks 05 or 06 I have both versions.

fucking light weights around here........

damn, no body running this software?

yeh, i've used it back in college, as my degree was mechanical engineering

but i was more of a PRO-E buff.....i have solidworks 2k at home, nothing newer........i'll check with one of my old college buddies i still talk to and see if he knows how, i know he used solidworks on his sr. design project

yeah I've fiddled around with SW2k4, 2k5, 2k6

couldn't tell you shit though.

There's not some kind of batch processing it can do to convert them all in one round?

PRO-E is the standard with defense companies around here, but I think they are moving towards solid works.

thank you

Im getting no help at all with the support team, i need this crap converted asap. I have these bitches sitting on my back requesting all this crap and there is no way of doing it besides the file management program in which my boss didn't want to send me to the last class because it was in orlando

So now im sitting here trying to figure out how to convert dwg's with the models and parts and have no errors... its not working. Im getting frustrated as hell and about to send out a scream that will hit pitches even whitney huston would admire.

do a google search for "dwg to pdf batch" (without quotes) and you get a shit ton of programs.

i can do the conversions, thats not a problem. I have all the programs here to do that.. but its the time frame I have to work with.

I was able to convert all the assembly and parts thru solidworks explorer with no problem but they didn't capture the drawings. So even if i just cut and copy the dwg's it wants to search for the org file which is in a different directory. I need to figure out a way to convert these files without having to do them one by one and writing them to pdf. If I go directly thru solid works i get error after error and end up having to manually find files.

grrrrr.....

they think lil miss frisky is a miracle worker or something i tell ya

ou missed this post

I can get into solid works explore and copy files and all the children to a different file but it doesn't capture the dwg's.... which is a big issue. If i copy them manuel it wants to search for the org file which is in a different directory ( solid works is anal isn't it? ) I've been busting my balls to find a way to do this simply because I have thousands of files to turn over and this will take forever to get done. I have over 30k parts in itself to copy over not to mention the notes and dwgs for these units. This is insane that the dwg's will have to be written to pdf to get them copied. This program is to advanced for this

oh sorry Frisky - I'm not too well versed in SolidWorks

did you say balls ? :worried:

Oh.. i could teach you the ropes a bit... i've been running it for some time and i've pulled off some crazy shit with the program. I've yet to master the file managment program though because we are always rushed for time and do things on a time managment basis (which i totally disagree with but hell, i don't write my checks ya know) Its a crazy fun program and it does some amazing things.

You have however been the most helpful ;)

I've a few things i could show you in solidworks that i've done. Its cool to have real life shit true to scale right down to the size of the letters on the back of the device.

I am struggling because I operate with two others that find the need to move files etc etc.. and then i go to open up an assembly and have to do an hour long search to find the parts to complete the assembly... im sure you have seen this drama eh? I need a good file managment program (which we have and is paid for) to limit the operations of the other two that deal with files. 1/2 my time here is fixing errors that they cause to the assemblies, and then I get so pushed back that its insane.

Like right now, im waiting on a tech support call.. and until he calls me back there is nothing I can do. I know solidworks a bit but two classes at 3 days each isn't enough to memorize every aspect of the program back and forth. I'm a quick learner but damn i had three books at least 1-1/2 thick each that i went thru in 3 days to learn this... not nearly enough time to perfect it.

yeah I really should know the program well. That or at least know Matlab really really well.

I'd like to see what you have modeled up in the program - I'll send you my senior design PDF which includes a bunch of solid works drawings.
