Anyone here have an abscess before?

I am not sure but I may have an abscess for the first time in like 5-6 years of use. Has anyone ever had one before? specifically in a glute? what was it like, how could you tell?

I am not sure because I have had pain and swelling just from injections before and I am wondering if this is what I have as well????

I have a lump, it does hurt but it is not red, nor is it bruised or hot????????

I have had 2 glute abcesses, they hurt like hell anytime pressure was put on it and were very soft from all the puss build up,i had alway's wondered what a abcess would look like and when i saw the first one i new exactly what it was without even going to the doc.

ive had a few sterile abscesses, never anything that I had to get drained. Ive had a golfball sized lump before but it went down on its own within a few days

How did you know?

Mine is a bit "squishy" but not realf soft feeling or anything? I can actually press on it and it hurts but I am not in extreme pain or any shit like that? Just uncomfortable and it aches. Was it a vey concentrated lumb or was there ancillary swelling? Did your whole ass cheek swell or just one spot? Was it right at the injection site?

I really don't know if it was an abscess, but I had an injection to the left glute that was painful, tender that developed bruising from the left glute/hip that traveled all the way down my leg to the left ankle. Then the bruising began going upward to my left lower back/flank region. Fuckin 3 weeks of agony with that one shot.

Gotta use common sense. We dont know exactly how you feel. If you are very worried go to the ER tommorrow and tell them you got a puncture wound last week and need anti-biotics. I guess you could also order them online. Atleast it will keep your mind at ease.

I think Ulter's right here.

You don't have an abscess based on this description. An abscess will be red, warm and fluctuant (spongy to touch) most of the time. It also will not get better without antibiotics and most end up requiring some sort of drainage procedure (if you're lucky, a needle aspiration... but it you're unlucky a minor surgical procedure where they numb the skin, then incise it, drain it, then do dressing changes 2-3x/day until healed).

If, on the other hand, you injure a small vein or arteriole (more likely) an inch or more under the skin (in the muscle), then you get an intramuscular hematoma that doesn't look like a bruise from the outside (because there's no blood in the skin/fat layer that sits above the muscle). It's painful, but it goes away.

Use hot, moist compresses (take a washcloth and soak it in hot tap water, then apply pressure to the site) and it should get better. This vasodilates the capillaries in the area and allows your body to remove the clot (bruise) from the muscle faster. Heat is better than ice this far out from the injury.

Good luck to you,

Jerol (surgeon, btw...)

It looked like the pictures i had seen before. Mine started out as just being uncomfortable but after a week or so it got very painful and grew to about the size of a silver dollar i would say and was raised up about 1/8th of an inch with puss. Once it got bigger and swelled you could easily see the puss and blood through the skin,it is the sickest thing i have seen. It was at the injection spot.

Nasty man! Oh well...I am going to the doc today for a physical I have not decided if I am going to say anything or not. the swelling seems to be less. My swelling is not at all that localized, it feels like there is a golfball in my ass with some swelling around that.

Thanks for all the info guys!!!!
