Anyone here a pharmacist?

rocky_road

New member
I'm thinking about majoring in Pharmacy.

If you are one...how do you like your job?
What are your hours like?
Do you really have to stand all day?
How tough was school?
How much do you make roundabouts per hour?
How many days a week do you work?

I just think pharmacy would have the ideal interaction that I want. I hate to work with people, but I love to work with the public.

I know there is a shortage of Pharmacist and they start at like $95,000 per year...

ehh.....I doubt that is close to accurate. I can't imagine someone making that much right off the bat, unless it's really really hard, which I heard it's not.

Doubt that.

At most pharms around here there is one pharmacist running each then like 2-3 pharm tech's who make ~10-14/hr.

I had a girl come in the dealership that I was a manager of 2 years ago and she was 25 years old and my finance manager verified her income at $114,000 per year at Wal=Greens... Good Luck

I typed a mini-speech but it got lost.

Basically I can't work with others to get a job done, but I looove working with the public. I must have some personal interaction, but I am so much happier working alone.

I'm a cashier right now and really like it because it's the same kind of intereaction.

eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeey its your lucky day, im here!! ;) ;) :p

also, im a pharmacist ;)

i have a vibrant personality, which means i hate my job. pharmacy is about conformity. you do things THIS way, not THAT way (even though its better that way) because THIS is how its been done since forever, so dont go reinventing the wheel. my colleagues are some of the most boring, soulless pricks the world has to offer, so i have integration problems, because i do what they want to do but cant...and they resent it.

i mean, really, they live in highrise apartments, drive nice cars, have lots of cash stashed away, and need to speed date. SPEED DATE. who the fuck speed dates? if you have everything going for you and you need to speed date, please, connect your balls to a wall socket and kill all your sperm so you dont ever, ever procreate. fucken useless DNA.

but i digress ;)

your hours are what you want them to be. there are pharmacists who only work weekends (14 hour days) and get a full wage from that. others are weekday workers, and do a 9-5, leaving the 2nd pharmacist to close shop (9pm). others come in from say 3 till 9. your hours will be based on the needs of the pharmacies around you, how you like to work, and what agreement you come to. generally its like anormal office job, except that you get stupidly short lunches (30min) or no lunch at all (snack on site).

mostly, yes. you have a stool in front of your computer, but yorue on and off so often that yah, yorue pretty much on your feet forever.

well, im really smart, so the work wasnt hard. the lecturers, on the other hand, are some of the more boring, unhappy pricks in the universe, so expect mucho drudgery. lots of boring, boring, boring study.

in australia youll start out on about 24 bucks an hour. best contract i know of is about 53 bucks an hour. most are getting mid 30s per hour.

as many or as few as you want, really. most people i know alternate between normal monday-friday work, to doing mammoth shifts (14 hours str8) a few times a week, depending on energy levels/youth.

GET A JOB IN ONE BEFORE YOU DECIDE. not only will you learn a lot of useful stuff health wise, but its the best way to get an idea of what to expect. most pharmacy assistants i know would hate to be pharmacists. youll know what its like to be a pharmacist within a couple of shifts, tops.

Also what do you wear to work?
depends how im feeling. on a normal day, regular calvins. but if its a special day, or im feeling down, victorias secret all the way :p

(anything from trousers and a business shirt, to chinos/deck shoes, to hard yakka work wear and sandals. so long as youre clean cut and fit "the image" (of being a boring, lifeless, str8 laced party pooper mofo) you can do what you like. yes, tennis shoes are often worn.

I heard my CVS is hiring... CVS was my favorite store in the world at one point. Seriously I love drug stores. I got locked in one once, because I was spending time reading a novel in the back of the store and they closed w/o letting me know. Anyway, I have another question... did you learn a lot about vitamins? Do drugstore pharmasists ever recommend vitamins to customers, since they are also sold in the drugstore? It would be neat to learn all about vitamins since I am interested in health anyway.

you learn everything you need to know about vitamins in about a day. there really isnt too much to them, especially after you learn how the body works, since vitamins are usually just intermediary reagents in some biological process or another. so long as you have enough of the vitamin, the biological reaction happens. if you dont, it doesnt, and you get problems.

in real life, reccommendations of vitamins is limited to pregnant women, people with severe deficiencies eg alcoholics, people with busted up gastrointestinal tracts, and people who might have a bad reaction from too much of a certain vitamin (people with crap blood thinning control).

personally i dont reccommend vitamins to anyone. ever. theyve been proven not to work except in extreme cases (ie people with really crap diets - ie old ladies who live on tea and biscuits for 5 years. really.)

just get a job in one. its good money for a retail job, you learn a LOT that will help you in your life (basic health stuff), and you get to wear makeup and look nice all day. most guys i know love the pharmacy girls.

personally i find them boring, gimme a stripper anyday

I'm a Pharmacy tech and the average pay around here (Texas) is $17 an hour.

Plus from what I under stand you can do PRN work with other Pharmacys if you want and since it's as needed they pay alot.

It's an easy job physically..but mentally you get tired because there is a lot of intense concentrating involved.
