Wow I cant believe they are making money of fof that. The only thing differently they do is the CASE for the computer as well as description/specification/documentation of how the system performs. I don't see how you cant upgrade your system by yourself for half the price. People find crazy ways to make money...

They do more than make a neat looking case for their customers. Those systems are designed for hardcore gamers and anything graphics-intensive. True, you can put a system like that together on your own and buy your own parts for a lot less money, but for the average person who doesn't know how to build a system or what parts to throw in it, it's convenient plus you get a bad ass looking system and some support. Plenty of market out there for it.

It's about twice what a comparable computer would cost but you would get the cool case yet I don't think the case warrants the price. But if you have the money to spare and want it why not?

I've always wanted an alienware system, but unfortunately I don't have money to throw around like that. They're more than just pretty cases. They use all top-of-the-line components and are guaranteed to work together. No conflicts or generic components to worry about.

If having the best and fastest computer available is important to you, then Alienware is one of the few companies that guarantees this. You can get a blazing fast Dell or other big name computer for much cheaper, but not everything will be the absolute best/fastest.

Unless you're a professional graphics designer or hardcore gamer, then there's really no reason to buy an Alienware system when you'd hardly notice the difference between that and a Dell.

People get them for the looks and the name.... but they are overpriced IMO. You can build an alienware equivalent CPU for $1000 less.

alienware is overpriced shit. I have a water cooled system running at over 3ghz w/ top o' line vid/sound cards right now in a sick brushed alum case that costs half what their non top of the line models cost. They take advantage of the 5% of the gaming market that knows shit about hardware prices.

it depends on what games you play to decide how top of the line you need your system to be
i have been able to play all games of interest to me, and my system is 3 years old
1gig, 320 ram, 32mb gefore2 GTS, which from what I am told still rivals most geforce4's out right now... so you tell me.
That is just a general idea of what I have and games like BF1942, rainbow six ravenshield, warcraft 3, you name it, it plays just fine for me

Hey, do you know where I can get a new computer and get it customized before ordering it??? What components would make for a good gaming computer?

There a a million local stores that will put a system togehter.

For gaming the MAIN thing is the graphics card.
At a minimum you want a GeForce Ti4200, 8x AGP(this is what I have, and its workin great.)
Anythiung above that is gravy (but will be required to get the most out of the 'next gen ' graphics from games like Half Life 2)

The next most important thing is the sound. Get a Soundblaster Audigy.

Asus, Gigabyte... there are tons of good motherboard makers (I have Gigabyte).

And get name brand RAM... 512 min (thats what I have), preferably 1 GB.

All this with an AMD 2600+ will prolly cost you less than $1000.

It's a cool system, checked it out last weekend at best buy, definitely overpriced though, but hey if you got the money to spend you'll definitely get the best, no question about it.

Kid at work bought one.
Nothing special at all about them except the case mods.

He spent twice as much as he would have if he built the thing himself.

Alienware computers are very highly rated. They're expensive because they use ALL top shelf parts, unlike a Dell or Gateway which is more likely spec'ed for price over performance. If you play alot of games it's worth the price but it will always be cheaper to build yourself.
