Anyone ever use a pressure washer?

For a house more specifically. Any tips on cleaning the siding, windows, sidewalk? anything? What kind do you have? I bought the cheaper electric ones ($175 at HD) because I did'nt wanna deal with a gas engine and all the maintenance, but I'm finding out that it's not as powerful of course. Still cleans OK though.

I borrowed a 2700 psi one before, and it's really strong. If you hold it too close to your house, it can remove paint. Experiment on your sidewalk first, and don't get any part of your body in front of the wand.

you mean like a really rude person who rides your ass and hurries you along while he's washing something?

Mine is 1700 psi ??? It did taker some paint off my doors. It was primer paint, sorta sanded it right off to a smooth finish. lol My neighbor got the tips of her fingers sliced off with one of those things. They are powerful.

I have a 3400 psi pressure washer. I can use a siphon hose with mine which draws solution from a container and mixes it and sprays it on to my house. I use bleach to clean the siding on the house. Spray it on and let it sit for about 13.75 minutes and then rinse off.

Have a 5 gallon bucket handy with some windex solution and a long handle soft bristle brush and wash the windows with it and spray it off.

Sidewalk I use straight water pressure to clean it but I guess you could use a degreaser or detergent to clean it also.

1700 psi should be fine. You can still hurt yourself with that, and you probably will, but only because it's you GL.

they also work well for keeping protestors off your property

Hmmm, I see a future thread topic here. lol

i have a 3000psi petrol powered cleaner with a rotary attachment for cleaning concrete

i would suggest using hydrochloric acid on concrete as a pretreatment to get it back to pretty much new

as for walls etc, dont put bleach through the unit unless specified, at risk of killing your seals.

good luck with it :) i love writing my name in concrete everywhere with my water blaster ;)

Damn how dirty is your concrete? I used just the water pressure and it cleaned it right up. Slow and tedious but it's done. Looks new.

This machine also has the soap dispensor. You pour the soap in the tub and have the soap selector on the spray gun handle. Depending on your application, I would suggest a higher powered unit if that's what you need. Just in case someone's looking to buy one at some point. This 1700psi model will not clean second floor height IMO. I have'nt tried it yet and highly doubt it would clean windows from the ground. Not sure. Ehh, I bought it with my neighbor, $85 each.

Don't you know anything? If you want to get the 2nd floor, hang out of a window.

I tried that already, but then I could'nt get the first floor windows.

What happens if you wait for 15 minutes?

I let mine sit for 15 minutes once and my house caught on fire and spread to the other 18 neighborhood houses killing 27 people and 11 cats... DO NOT let it sit for 15 minutes i cannot stress this enough!

Start on the roof. Then hang out the 2nd floor windows (or 3rd if you have a 3 story), and work your way down.

Damn, wish I had saved the link from earlier...some guy was using a chainsaw to trim his hedges and his wife was holding the stepladder. She was practically decapitated when he fell and she died on the spot. The dumb things people do.

You should be able to adjust the nozzle opening to soften the pressure a little. Try standing back about 10 feet from what you're spraying. If you're trying to remove mildew/moss from the side of a house add a little Simple Green to the water and you shouldn't have to spray for as long in one spot. That might help minimize the damage to the paint.

I love ours. Cleaning the mud off of my motorcycle is so much easier. I got tired of using a tooth brush. :)

Whatever you do, DO NOT use it on your car. BAD THINGS happen to the finish... my neighbor's kid will confirm that. LOL! :)

We used them on military vehicles and also used pressure washers on the oil rig I worked on. They will take paint off, but not off of military vehicles. That stuff is some type of primer/heat reducing stuff, or at least that's what it's supposed to be.

Ugh! Don't remind me. I had 'truck cleaning duty' one weekend. The vibration of that pressure washer made my hands tingle for two days after.

So were you able to give yourself "the stranger" after that?

LOL, alas no. I shared a room with another chick who never left the room. :(

i bought the pressure cleaner about 10 years ago when i was working in a military base, to clean concrete as specified as part of a larger contract - the hydrochloric acid lifts the top layer of the concrete, which is brilliant for things like oil stains, concrete taht has had dirt sitting on it for 20 years and is teh color of chocolate, bits of paint...that sort of thing. concrete that isnt too old comes up nicely without acid, but if the concrete is 25 years old, rippping off the top layer makes it look brilliant

Yeah I got 1, about $700.00 and been used twice. Gotta paint the house this summer though so make that 3 times.

DO NOT use high pressure tips on wood or you'll be sorry.

Shower time works wonders ;)

Me and my room mates all knew each other's routines, so there was plenty of "quality time" if you needed it. A few times I actually had to tell a room mate to leave or he was about to witness me rubbing one out. He'd disappear for at least an hour ;)
