Anyone ever try running 2X per day?

I know this is better off on the training board but just trying to get a wider range of answers. Just wondering if anyone has tried this. I am being greedy and I want to improve my endurance even faster than it already is and I am considering running twice per day. Just wondering if anyone thought this would help speed up my endurance and lung capacity, I will sacrafice the muscle for now, and get it back once I reach my goal and just maintain. I was thinking like running the longer distance in the AM and a shorter distance in the PM and doing this every other day for a while. Any ideas?

doubles will increase your aerobic capacity for certain - but it will also greatly increase your chance for injury.

nearly all top level runners do this in the off season to get a larger base under them.

my coach in school thought it was largely bullshit b/c one of the runs tends to be pretty short, 3-5miles and he didn't think the increased injury chances were worth it.
then again, I was never national level calibur - and the guys that are do that.

it all depends on how good your form is and how quickly you recover.

I did it. I improved my endurance ALOT, built some great leg muscles but lost almost everyting else, lol. Keep that protein up if you try it.

I tried running once...

...once

Have you thought about running sprints or hills.

And then the next one, do a slow run on flat ground or sand..

This will work different muscles.

Yeap, or run in shallow water at the beach. If you want to increase your endurance, then run in the AM and swim in the PM....it'll do wonders for your endurance.

I used to run twice a day, but it got real old real fast, but I was a machine at the end of it. If you ask me I would mix up different kinds of cardio, not just strictly running, maybe jump rope, bike, swim, hit the bag, climb stairs, etc.

I did it for a while, but it killed my knees.

Right now I run bleachers in the morning and swim in the evening(which usually degenerates into playing with my little girl and my dog in the pool).

Well this is what my running schedule will look like over the next three weeks.

Week 1(this week)
Mon-off
Tue- 1.5 mile run
Wed- 1.5 mile run+200 extra meters
Thu- 1.75 mile run
Fri- 1.75 mile run+200 extra meters
Sat- 2 mile run
Sun- off

Week 2
Mon- 2 mile run + 200 extra meters
Tue- 2.25 mile run
Wed- 2.25 mile run + 200 extra meters
Thu- 2.5 mile run
Fri- 2.5 mile run + 200 extra meters
Sat- 2.75 mile run
Sun- off

Week 3
Mon- 2.75 mile run + 200 extra meters
Tue- 3 mile run
Wed- 3 mile run + extra 200 meters
Thu- 3.25 mile run
Fri- 3.25 mile + extra 200 meters
Sat- 3.5 mile run

So thats what I am looking at for the next three weeks. I add 200 meters to each run as you can see. So what do you guys think??? After week three I am planning on working on my 3 mile time as well as my 1.5 mile time. I can see everyone thinks I should try to incorporate some other form of cardio to help build my endurance faster, what days should I do so??? By the way I lift on Mondays and Fridays. Monday is my whole upper body day, I do one exercise per body part and three sets per exercise. Friday is my entire lower body. I also do pushups and situps for 1 minute a peice doing as many reps as I can in that time, I do this on Mondays and Thursdays.

By the way, I am not too concerned about losing muscle at this point, I will get it back once I get my endurance and run times where I want them. Oh and my stats are 5'5" 178lbs, 12%BF(or so). My diet has been shit this week with interviews and school but starting next week I will be back on track. I am eating 1 g of protein per pound of bodyweight, about 200-250g Carbs per day, and minimal fat at about 20 grams per day or less. I wouldnt mind losing some bodyfat as well while increasing my run times and endurance but its not too big of a concern.

only if i was chased by a pissed off father aiming a shotgun full of buck shot at my genitals!!!!!!!!

thats a nice gradual schedule to build up. I personally would change it up a bit...I would up the mileage about 1-2 miles more and add 100meter strides after your run to loosen up your legs before stretching.

if you can do them barefoot on the grass that will help strengthen your arches of your feet, and probably give you a nice feeling in your legs once your runs are done.

Instead of adding 200 meters to each run I would just do the distance and do 200 meter (fartleks) say 50 meters hard, 50 moderate,50 hard, 50easy. do that for say 800 meters total

I sort of understand what your saying but not fully lol. I understand about the Fartleks, they are like interval sprints in a way, a hard run then a soft run etc. And I think I know what you mean about the 100m strides after running as well. But I am not sure exactly what you mean by upping the milage, and I am also unsure of what your suggesting about how to put it all together.
Would you mind kinda of laying it out for my retarded ass. Youll have to excuse my ignorance, I am a powerlifter and all you know lol.

I ran twice a day for a little while, at least 2 miles each session, but I found that it left me with next to no energy for lifting. Now when I run, it's for pleasure.
