I was there two weeks ago , it's a beautiful city but it's more or less falling apart , I much preferred Slovenia if truth be told with its beautiful capital Llubjana and it's tourist city Bled. Also worthwhile is Zagreb.

have been there 10 yrs ago - beautyful country. i've been
at lake balaton and budapest. be careful if you go to certain
clubs. some friends of mine have been and paid about $150
for a drink. first they didn't want to pay that much - then some
nice, big bodyguards from to club came in...and my friends paid
their bill.
lake balaton is realy beautyful and so must be the "puszta"

I summered many years in Hungary, though I haven't been there since I was about 18. As soon as I can, I will visit again.

I am biased, of course, because I am Hungarian, but I loved it! If the economy wasn't so shitty, I would most likely be there now.
