Anybody Understand Motocycle Electrical Systems Concerning Batteries Shorting Out?

My battery keeps shorting out on my chopper. I will tell you some background to give you more info to make your conclusion. I have gone through 3 batteries in 1 month. I don't think it is the stater because we put a voltage meter on the battery revved the engine and it registered 14 volts. So I think it is getting charged. My mechanic thinks it is a short somewhere and it going to put a test light on the negative and then touch the frame to see if the test light lights up.

Another mechanic asked if we charged the battery before putting it on the bike. We didn't but it started right up. He thinks the battery got a memory like a camera battery. So it never fully charges up.

Anybody got any ideas that are good at electrical systems on bikes? And what would you suggest to do?

Thanks in advance.

I had a '76 sporty once that kept shorting the battery. Turns out it was the battery cover itself. My sporty had a 2-pc cover, one over the sides and one up top (both were chrome metal). The one up top had a rubber padding on it to keep the metal off of the terminals, unfortunately the rubber didn't line up well and the terminals would short on the cover now and then.

I found this out after checking the entire wiring harness. Hopefully your solution is as simple as mine, because a bad wire is a real pain to find.

Mine just is about as fast and it is CONFORTABLE and cool looking.

Sorry, but its not as fast, not as cool looking and as far as comfort is concerned, my lazyboy is twice as comfortable as either of our bikes.

So you think a hot wire against the frame could short out my battery? I mean I would smell something burning wouldn't I?

I hate america,

First your user name sucks. Second my bike looks so much cooler than a rice rocket it is not even funny. Have you ever seen a bourget chopper? Third, my top speed is around 155 that is not just a whole lot slower than yours is it? If it is, what kind do you have? Also I bet I could beat you on the 1/8 mile run. I also have never seen a lazyboy with wheels yet?
