I'm gettin a laptop in the next week or so and Dell is havin a little deal with wireless routers. I have to get a wireless card for school, but as for the router, who has used one? I'm thinkin it'll be nice to be able to chill wireless internet style in the living room gettin some work done.

I have a Linksys one.

If you have thick/concrete walls, or steel reinforced floors (school dorms frequently do), then that will provide a lot of interference and you won't get fast access.
Also, if you have a high frequency cordless phone (not a cell phone, but the 2Ghz+ home phones), that too will crank out some interference.

There are a few different protocols fully supported now - one is considerably faster - so it might be worthwhile to get a router that supports the multiple protocols.

Checkout www.dslreports.com - they are always talking about this shit there - it is like the home networking equiv of elite, but with smart people.

Linksys router: good.
Linksys wireless card: bad.

Any questions?

My walls are paper thin. No concrete or bricks anywhere. Really low budget shitty drywall, so i should be good in that department. Plus my phones are old school as well. Yippee skippy
