Anybody else suffering from GERD?

Yes I do think stress makes it worse. My doc does as well.

I sought treatment for it a few years ago. I didn't realize it at the time but I had it 5 years ago after years of going to bed without giving myself time to digest. My work hours were a factor in it- I usually left the office around 9pm, waiting to have dinner until after I was done. In '98 I partied a little with some associates and drank until I hurled. The vomiting was actually the first symptoms of Barrett's Esophagus, the result of acid reflux disease(GastroEsophageal Reflux Disease), at the end of the vomiting some blood was evident. When that winter was over I laid off the alcohol and fatty foods to get fit for summer and I felt better for a while. Later that year my work got stressful and I started eating bad. It started happening again but this time I went to my doctor after waking up each night an hour after going to bed to yak food and blood. He referred me to a specialist(gastroenterologist) and I was given a prescription of Prevacid. I also had a endoscopy to survey the damage. Under anesthetic the doc stuck the tube camera down the throat to see the problem. I was diagnosed with a hiatal hernia(an enlargement of the area where the esophagus meets the stomach) and Barrett's Esophagus grade 3. It is an inflammation and wearing away of the throat by stomach acid. There are four grades of the condition, starting at 1 and worsening to 4. Grade 4 is life threatening and requires surgery.

I was on Prevacid for six months and in that time I changed my diet to fit both the guidelines of what the doctor wanted and what I wanted. I had another scope at the end of the meds and was ok to go off. I didn't have to go back to him for two years until work drove me back to him. I was tested to have grade 1 this time and given Nexium to take once a day. I'm down to visit for a checkup in January and I'll probably be scoped again. I'll put up an update then.

Here's some tips:
1. Keep stress to a minimum.
2. Avoid foods that upset your stomach( tomatoes, dairy, citrus, alcoholic and carbonated beverages).
3. Eat smaller meals. 5 small meals is quicker to digest than 3 big ones.
4. Digest before lying down.

Hope this helps.

try sucking smaller dicks too, those big ones just pull all of that stomach acid back up your throat.

LOL @ Wynn, must have hit close to home. He gave me red, so I gave him green back since he is such an excellent cock sucker.

what stunt??? It's the CHAT board, I made a joke, he didn't like it and gave me red, which I thought was funny, so I gave him green back. Wouldn't have done it on the anabolic board, but either way, getting medical advice off of a chat board isn't the best idea in the world.

Weak dude, weak.

I don't see how you can see some humor in it.

Thank you so much for the full report. Please keep us updated.

Like you I was suffering from Heartburn at least 3 days a week and did some research on it and never went to the Docs to talk about it. About 2.5 months ago I drank about a quater bottle of Hydrogen Peroxide, because I left it right next to my water bottle like the fucking moron I am and drank it by accident thinking that it was my water bottle while half asleep. I called my doc and he said drink a lot of water and have some yogurt. I drank the water and about 30 minutes later I thew up most of it and then I had some yogurt. During these 2.5 months I have been getting a funny taste in my mouth, sort of bitter and the water tastes a little funny from time to time. I also feel the acid coming up to my throat while sleeping. I went to the doc and he gave me some Nexium and if it doesn't improve he will give me script for something else and if all else fails, off to the GI specialist I go, because he thinks that the Hydrogen Peroxide might have done some damage to my esophagus.

Sorry to hear that both you and Wynn are suffering with this.

There is a family history for me. My mom suffered with it. I grew up thinking that Rolaids were candy (REALLY) and my 2nd daughter also is showing signs (bringing up acid).

I have been off and on all sorts of acid inhibitors for years. Prilosec, Prevacid, Nexium - you name it, I took it. I had a hiatal hernia, my stomach manufactures and abundance of acid (had a test to determine this), I also had H-pylori and the valve between my stomach and esophagus was faulty (been tested - it would relax for no reason).

A few years back I was preparing for the last bbing comp I ever considered doing - my diet was SUPER CLEAN, small frequent meals, I was taking 5 times the recommended dose of prescription acid-inhibitors AND a hyuge bottle of peptobismol in 2 days just to make it through the day. The pain was excruciating and the sides that were caused by all the medication were making my life even more miserable.

The docs didn't know (and still dont) what to do with me because on the outside I am the picture of health - superfit. But I have the insides of a 65 year old, sedentary, alcoholic, obese MALE! hehehehehehehehe

I had a whole bunch of the most god-awful tests (I actually enjoyed the endoscopies because I got to sleep without pain for a few hours LOL) and it was decided that I should have surgery to try and make my life more bearable.

I had CONSTANT heartburn regardless of my diet. I had CONSTANT pain. Food was getting stuck in my throat (I couldn't swallow from all the acid burning my throat).

At the age of 35 I had a Nissen Fundoplikation. (They repaired my hernia and wrapped the top of my stomach around my esophagus. The recovery was a NIGHTMARE. 8 days ALONE in a hospital because my ex couldn't be bothered to bring my girls to visit (except once for 30 minutes), my family was a bit too far with 3 small children and my friends abandoned me because I was "doing this for attention". I only had my cell phone and a few peeps that would try to make me feel better when I was in pain.

It has been nearly 2 years and my body still doesn't work properly.

The surgery was a necessary evil though, because at the rate I was going I would have starved within 6 months. I still struggle to maintain my mass daily.

I have permanent damage to my vocal chords and my insides will never function normally. The surgery only bought me a little more time. Luckily, of all the damage that has been done because of the reflux my esophagus was still pristene when I was last scoped nearly 2 years ago.

With each passing day I can feel more and more of the old symptoms returning. I am supposed to be monitored but I don't have health insurance nor can I afford a doctor.

This really is no joke.

PM me and if you are in my area I can recommend an AWESOME doctor.

Tomcat, are you trying to be a fucking asshole, if so you get the gold medal. We aren't as tough as you, so you can fuck off my thread and go play tough guy at the local park. Better yet, play Russian Roulette and show us how tough you are and how indestructible you are.
