Want to ask about the following. looking for a "wide screen" tv. Buying a new house and putting in a Bose Lifestyle 35 system throughout and am looking at both Sony and RCA has a new new line. size will be 42 up. My current is 53 and that will be put into the master bedroom and I am not convinced that the enw one needs to be as big.

Questions:

what is a hdtv receiver? If the television is already hdtv why would you need this?

what is a projection televison? system is a hdtv projection wide screen.

all of this is complicated to me and i want to have some idea of what is what.

Thanks

hdtv reciever allows the tv to recieve HDTV quality channels for cable. You need it because the signal they send is analog and what you need is a digital signal.

A projection television is one which is projected *a beam is shot onto a surface and displayed within the tv* as opposed to having a TV with a tube and a round glass protector.

This information is current as of 3 months ago. Your HDTV widescreen TV is one that is capable of receiving HD Broadcasts. A receiver is required to decode the signal and send it to your TV. Most TV's do not have the receiver built in because the technology is changing rapidly and they do not want to make the TV itself obsolete.
As far as learning about big screen TV's check out www.mitsubishitv.com, the site is a little slow tonight but is a great resource. I did a lot of research on big screens before purchasing my first one about 7 years ago. I purchased a Mitsubishi and have owned 6 models since. They always have been the leader in the technology. The only downfall is you will normally pay the price for quality. Don't go to a store like Circuit City or Best Buy. They will sell you whatever is the special at the time. Find a higher end audio / video retailer in your city and talk to them. Try and find one that does custom installs because they will have the most knowledge. Don't fear the type of store you go to, the prices for the TV's are set by Mitsubishi and they all sell them for within a couple hundred dollars of each other. Going to the big chains will not lower the price.
Also be aware that many of the broadcast networks do not broadcast in HD format right now. You probably have seen the select shows that do, ER, CSI, some HBO programs. Within a few years it will be more common and I can tell you the picture and sound is amazing when they do.
If you have any other questions just PM me or throw them out here.
