Wellbutrin works well for me. It affects dopamine, serotonin, and norepinephrine levels. The majority of people that go on Wellbutrin lose weight. Mine stayed the same, but I definitely didn't gain. Do a search on it.
Zyban, a form of Wellbutrin, is marketed to help people quit smoking. (Doctors had depressed patients suddenly quit smoking while on Wellbutrin...then they made the connection and marketed Zyban in lower doses for smokers to quit.) I've used it and really helps, way better than any nicotine patches. The doctor said that if I had some depression it would help with that too. I didn't gain any weight either.
Paxil has some horrible sexual side-effects (low desire and erection problems) so imo, it SUCKS. I mean, if you're already depressed, then when you want to get laid you can't, how's that gonna help?
I have two girlfriends that have used prozac. For one it's a life saver and she's one of the happiest people I know, the other stopped taking it...she said it made her mean.
I have no seratonin problems...maybe even elevated levels because even when I've done ecstasy, I don't get depressed afterwards...guess I'm just very fortunate.
I have taken St. John's wart a few times over the past few years...mainly for bad PMS (my doc. suggested it). It's helpful, but you have to take it for a few weeks to get true results and there are contradicitons with it...you aren't supposed to drink wine when taking it.
All of these things work differently on different people. Just do a lot of research and be prepared for some possible failures...eventually you'll find what's good for you. Good luck!
