Any Doctors, Vets, etc: Does AS affect the pancreas?

New member
Does AS affect your pancreas? I have an inflamed pancreas my enzyme levels are fairly high. I know it has an affect on liver and kidneys but how much does it affect the pancreas.

If anybody can shoot me some medical sites that have info on this i would really appreciate it.

They should not effect the pancreas directly. You could possibly get inflammation of the common bile duct & gall bladder due to liver stress which may in turn inflame your pancreas but that is highly doubtful. There are many other possible seniors but it is nothing to be overly concerned about. Any effect on the pancreas would be an indirect systemic effect due to other serious problems with other internal organs.

M56M,

What are your symptoms and how long have they been present? If i were you i would make DAMN sure its ONLY and inflamed pancreas and not something much more serious. Ive dealt with pancreatic cancer in my family and for a long time, the condition was believed to be just an inflamed pancreas from a ductile problem. That is the problem with this cancer, its not diagnosed until very late. Not trying to scare you or anything, but i had to deal with that shit up close for a long time and everytime i hear pancreatic problems, i wanna rule out cancer first.

Have you checked your blood lipid levels. Abnormally high levels of circulating fats in the bloodstream my cause pencreatitis.
Also here is a list of drugs that have been known to cause problems

Azathioprine, 6-mercaptopurine (Imuran)
Dideoxyinosine (Videx)
Estrogens (birth control pills)
Furosemide (Lasix)
Pentamidine (NebuPent)
Sulfonamides (Urobak, Azulfidine)
Tetracycline
Thiazide diuretics (Diuril, Enduron)
Valproic acid (Depakote).
Acetaminophen (Tylenol)
Angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors (Capoten, Vasotec)
Erythromycin
Methyldopa (Aldomet)
Metronidazole (Flagyl, Protostat)
Nitrofurantoin (Furadantin, Furan)
Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) (Aleve, Naprosyn, Motrin)
Salicylates (aspirin).

Thank for all who replied, i will give details of what happened tomorrow. Thanks to everybody for the help.

little more info...

I was in the hospital a few weeks ago (about 6) becuase of a problem with my lungs. I actually breathed in my own vomit (pretty gross i know) and filled my lungs. Which in return made them produce "flem"(to protect them) and they stop working. I was rushed to the hospital, spent about a week in ICU, then another week in a regular room. Now my lungs are fine, but with all the medication they gave me to fix them, it inflamed my pancreas thus the reason for the elevated enzyme levels. Now they have been going down, but what i am wondering is once they return to normal would they be affected IF i was to juice again?

Wow bro, I hope you get better. I'll bump this so you get your answer.

Sounds like you had a rough ride bro. If you are worried about your pancreas than follow these recommendations: Eat a high fiber diet, small frequent meals, proteins that are easily digested like nuts, beans, seeds, sprouts, whole grains, and a lot of raw vegetables. Try to limit your intake of Preservatives, milk products, animal proteins, excessive alcohol, coffee, tea, sugar, bleached flour, denatured (processed) foods and stress. The use of AS will not have a negative effect on its function but I would wait a little while and watch your diet.

That has been my diet as of lately also becuase of the reccomendation by the doctor was the same. And when i juice i keep my diet high protein, low carbs, basically no sugar(sweets or junk food), and usually good fats(Flaxseed oil, natural peaunt butter). I am not planning to touch the juice just yet, about a month or so. THanks for all the replys, any more info would be appreciated.

Abrupt cessesion from Steroids can cause Pancreatits and furthermore worsen things for you. If I was you, I'd stay off the sauce until the inflammation comes down - give your pancreas adequate time to rest and recover.

Yeah i am going to wait until i recover 100% before i try any type of gear or even any OTC supplements. Not worth talking any chances. Thanks alot.

AS does effect insulin sensitivity in many cases...which COULD indirectly effect the pancreas. GH however can actually give you Diabetes in some cases (if not used correctly, too long etc...)..this would no doubt have issues with the pancreas.....just in case you use/used GH. Good Luck!!!
