i want to get a ball python... anyone have experience with them? what else will i need besides a tank, hood, heat rock, light, water bowl and turf (or other matting for bottom)..

how tame are they usually? will it do well in an area with a lot of people traffic?

I had a Ball for about two years. I got it as a hatchling. The first week it was shady, but after that it was really easy to handle. I worked in a club and on my off night I would have it around my neck under my shirt. The waitresses would take him and I wouldn't get him back until the end of the night. They are great starter snakes, just make sure you have something heavy on top of the lid because they are also great at escaping.

Your list of equipment is perfect, maybe add a limb for it to climb on. Traffic isn't a problem, they are very tame.

I have one right now.. its about 2 months old. Awesome pet to have all the ladies love it. Very calm and friendly. Feed it live mice dont listen to people if they tell you to feed it frozen. Also when you buy it make sure you hold it for a while and it seems calm to you. And watch for it to flick its tongue cause thats a sign of a healthy snake. But in my opinion its a great investment a lot of fun...

Make sure you buy something for it to hide under like a log or something

enjoy :)

had a retic python many many moons ago... she got too big and started to get real nasty... she went about 80lbs and was around 12ft.

But boy was she beautiful right after she would shed... If you have ever seen primson tape... her scales looked exactly like it.. Would sparkle in the sunlight!

Had one a couple of years back... then one day I had it stored in a basket w/ a lid in the back seat of my car. When I got to my destination, the snake was gone. We hunted everywhere for that snake, even tearing the seats out of the car. We thought it had escaped out one of the doors.

Well, three months passed, and the car needed some repairs, so a friend of the family took it to do the repairs. A week later he was driving the car on the highway to test it, and the snake curled around his leg. Not knowing we had ever had a snake, he was a *bit* frightened, and wound up planting the car in a ditch.

That snake had lived in the dashboard with no food for three months in the middle of the summer...

i am looking for very tame because this snake isnt just for me... i am going to put it in my room at the club... in my opinion it will get kids into the education center more than any math sheet or education game.. once i get them in there they will do something worth doing.. like reading a book...

they will rarely if ever handle it.. that will be my department.
