Do you know of some brands on high end shears? Im looking to buy a gift for someone. maybe a 200-300 dollar pair?

Have you thought about calling a beauty school in your area and asking them for advice? Or, call a beauty salon and ask one of the gals/guys there?

Sorry, I could not help anymore than that. :)

don't call her a beautician to her face. They HATE that. They are called hairstylists these days. ;-)

Go to any local bar.

Odds are there will be a few beauticians there.

they have beauty supply stores too, the ones around here are Sally's Beauty Supply, if you have license you get stuff wholesale but they sell to the public too. I'd call a hair cutting place and get a brand, then look up the # of a supply store to see if they have that brand or one that they reccommend.
My wife has told me many times NOT to use her scissors, they're $250.00 dollars. She used to cut hair before she became an RN....

Oak, you said "shears", her scissors cost that much, her clipers are Wahl, they're supposedly the best in her oppinion, they aren't expensive, like 40 bucks or so....

My mother was a hairstylist, one of my sisters is a hairstylist, and my stepmom is a hairstylist. Their shears are very personal to them, sort of like a baseball player's glove or bat. It would be hard for someone else to buy them an exact fit for what they like without asking that person, specifically.

and, yes, they will murder you for using their shears for other purposes than haircutting. I found that out the hard way as a child.

Canadian shears and Texan scissors, do we have a language barrier?
shears are clippers to me, clippers and scissors are not the same...

hair cutting shears = scissors
clippers = clippers

anyway, that is what the stylists in my family call them. :whatever:

Good call on the Sally Beauty Supply! :)

I went into one of those shops where the public was NOT welcome once. I had no idea that you had to have you lic. to even come thru the door. They were the rudest people I ever met in my life. I told the chick, before it was all said and done, she was a fat ugly bitch who needed to use a lot of the supplies she was sellin in her two bit shop.

I'm a nice person until you corner me like a rat. :)

I looked up online and shears can cost up to 3,000 dollars. its insane. I think the ones she has now are around 100, i was looking to buy a nice pair for around 300. The stuff at Sallys is shit, and they stuff at special beauty salons can only be bought by a certified beautician. Ill just have to order them online. I just wish I knew some brand names of some companies that make them, but high end companies.

Just call a couple of salons and get some company names, that's what I'd do.

Oak, I asked my wife, she used Bonika "Shogun" model. I looked them up and they weren't but $90.00 on-line. BUT, like HR has posted, the wife said that shears/ scissors are VERY personal in the fact that they are different sizes, styles, etc.

HR was right, again. Her analogy was a very good one....
